May 22, 20188 yr It’s not like this kid was 3 years old and happened upon his dad’s gun. He knew what he was doing. So if he took his dad’s car keys and ran over some others, dad’s at fault? Always blaming someone else. Can a kid legally buy a car at 16?
May 22, 20188 yr Cars weren't invented for racing, but yet... Cars weren’t invented to be killing machines either. I think they call those tanks.

Always blaming someone else. You see it is as blaming someone else. I see it as more than one person paying the price for gross negligence.
May 22, 20188 yr So @Jumper Dad @Run To State @TAC if one of your kids knew how to get to your guns and took your guns and shot up a school none of you would feel responsible for your kid’s actions?
May 22, 20188 yr Here is an example of a SRO stopping a shooting just a few days ago. He engaged in gunfire with the shooter. Only the shooter was injured. The 19-year-old former student opened fire near the school auditorium where students had gathered for graduation ceremony rehearsal, the statement said. The suspect fled the school and Dallas chased him, Dixon Police Chief Steven Howell said in a news conference. The suspect continued to shoot at the officer and the officer returned fire, Howell said. This officer stopped a school shooter before anyone got hurt - CNN In both schools that I have worked in, the SRO was an actual police officer employed by the local police department. As such, they receive the same training an other officer on that force would receive. I imagine that is the case here. It worked.

I’ve always felt like SROs make a ton of sense based on my own experience with SROs. I never knew it was a political position appointed to those who don’t have much experience as a real cop.
May 22, 20188 yr Why are folks so defensive about guns in this discussion when I have zero desire to take away guns from law abiding citizens. If a person wants 80 guns I have zero issues with that at all. At the same time I refuse to act like guns weren’t invented for the sole purpose of killing living things quickly and more efficiently than a knife or a spear. IMO it should never be easier to own a gun than it is to get a full and clean driver’s license.
May 22, 20188 yr Cars weren’t invented to be killing machines either. I think they call those tanks. I can argue guns are made to protect.
May 22, 20188 yr I can argue guns are made to protect. Semantics. That protection it provides is to kill the person/people trying to attack you because it is more efficient than a knife or a spear. “You don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.”

I always feel responsible for what my kids do. They're their own person though after a certain age and know right from wrong.
May 22, 20188 yr Semantics. That protection it provides is to kill the person/people trying to attack you because it is more efficient than a knife or a spear. “You don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.” Check how many guns are in this country. Now check how many of them were used to kill someone.

It's not hard to get a drivers license, and look how irresponsible a large portion of them are with texting and driving and other stupid things they do behind the wheel.

I have a friend in Texas who did a video showing that it was easier to buy a gun from a store near a school than it was to buy a kitten from the local rescue shelter. This was before the Santa Fe HS shooting. Edited May 22, 20188 yr by True blue (and gold)
May 22, 20188 yr Check how many guns are in this country. Now check how many of them were used to kill someone. People choosing not to murder with their weapons doesn’t erase the intent of a weapon. It’s called a weapon for a reason.
May 22, 20188 yr It's not hard to get a drivers license, and look how irresponsible a large portion of them are with texting and driving and other stupid things they do behind the wheel. In order to get a license you have to take a written test for a permit. Then if you pass the written test you have to drive with a licensed driver for a year before you can even take a test to get a full driver’s license. You also have to document your hours logged while driving with a permit and you have to fulfill a set amount of time driven before you can take your road test. It’s not that it is hard to get a license but you have to go through a lengthy process before you can get a license. Through that process you learn how to drive. To own a gun how long is the process? Do you have to take a test to own a gun? Do you have to get a gun permit before you get a license? When you get that gun permit do you have to learn how to use it in the presence of a licensed gun owner for the period of a year and log your hours of use in order to be able to take your gun test to become a fully licensed gun owner?
