Will Kentucky ever do the Thursday night light games?

Featured Replies

This seems to be growing and doing very well in the states that have it.

The games are broadcast live on TV and seem to have good ratings, for the most part and the attendance at these games seem to be really good.

I have gone to games in Central and Southwestern Ohio on Thursday and I have to say the locals seem to enjoy it. I have heard that players really like playing on live TV.

Ticket prices are the same as any regular game in the area

I for one hope not. Scheduling is already tricky enough.

Agree. Friday night high school football is GREAT the way it is! Don't need to add a Thursday night TV element to it.

I also hope not. And what's stopping TV from broadcasting some Friday night games?

As much as I like football, I can't watch it 7 days a week.

Some already do during the lead-up to Fall Break.

Not for me. Friday night and occasionally Saturday afternoon are my times to attend high school football games. I can't do Thursday.

They will never get enough advertisers to make it feasible...if they could the state finals would be telecast...let alone Thursday night games.

I do think in the next few years you will see schools through their technology programs, televise games via YouTube Live or Facebook Live.

Thursday night games used to be fairly common during the first weekend in October. The statewide teachers union meeting was always the first Friday of October and many schools were closed that day, which pushed the games up one day. Almost all of the Jefferson County schools play on that Thursday night although it isn't nearly as common out in the state.

I don't know about what everyone else thinks, but I want my team to have as many days of practice as possible between all of their games - especially if it's presumably going to be a big enough game that it's going to get live television broadcast treatment.

I don’t see any issues with the occasional Thursday night game, especially if it comes with television exposure. I wouldn’t however want to do this more than once or so a season.

HATE Thursday and Saturday games. Just my opinion of course.

Pendleton Co always plays on Thursday night the 1st week of October. Wool Fest starts on Friday, and the entire community is involved.

I don't get the hang-up about playing games on Thursdays or Saturdays. Would this be as big a deal if it wasn't for that book that got turned into a movie then a TV series?

And don't the players understand that most HS field lights are horrible, so it makes it even harder for their local reporters to get decent pics of them?

Play at daytime on Saturday afternoon and you can actually see the kids' faces through the helmets.

Good points. To expand a bit. HDTV - now the standard for over-the-air broadcasts - needs a lot of light to work. Most fields have 4 banks of lights and aren't close to supporting HD. 6 banks with about double what you see on most fields is really needed without supplemental lighting for HD TV broadcasts.

Webcasting works as its not trying fill a 70 inch 1080p. If you stream to your TV its not bad but its not HDTV. So the webcasters may still have a niche here. (props to the Prepspin guys!).
