No, Mike Brown is the reason this franchise will never be consistent.

At the end of the day qb play and coaching is two of the most important things. Yes Lewis is a huge problem and needs to be gone. However Dalton has literally done nothing in 7 years to suggest he is a guy to trust in big moments or biggest games. Even in his best seasons 2013 and 2015 when it came to biggest games, primetime or playoffs it was the same story with Dalton he was bad.

I am not blind the line sucks but Dalton still looks the same. We have now seen Dalton with a great line, great wrs, 2014 great run game, different coordinators, not enough weapons at wr, to weapons but bad line. So we seen Dalton in almost every situation in his career. The story line hasn't changed he is not a leader, struggles against good teams, not mentally tough in big moments, when things start going down hill in a game he rarely makes a play to change things and usually actually misses that throw.

The book is written on Dalton, we know what he is. So while he is not the only problem he is a problem. I don't want us to do what we did with Marvin. People knew what Marvin was but they we're afraid to move on because they had some success. Now we wasted a few more seasons with Marvin than we should have when we knew what Marvin was. An average coach but a coach who has to many flaws to win the big ones. Which is exactly what Dalton is. An average qb that can play good with a lot of help around him, but has to many flaws to win the big ones.

So yes I'm tough on Dalton but we know what Dalton is. So let's not just stick with him just because we're scared of change. Let's see him for what he is, a qb who with right situation can be successful but not one who is good enough to help get us over the top.

So let's not waste a few more years on Dalton like we did by keeping Marvin. When it was obvious we weren't getting over the top with him. So yes Mike Brown is to blame too for keeping Lewis and he is to blame if we waste a few more years on Dalton.

Two bad teams. O line is pathetic. Dalton is pathetic even when he does have time he can't make a good throw. Being at the game Green is getting very frustrated. 4 different times today Green had his guy beat, one of those times on a deep route one on one and Dalton had time and never looked at him, and then ended up rolling out and throwing an incomplete pass. Green took himself out walked to the sideline just flinged his his hand up to the field and shook his head the whole time while walking off.

I know it's not all on Dalton most qbs would struggle bad with this line. I'm not oblivious to that fact. However just goes to shows Dalton needs everything around him to be great for him to do well. We have heard every excuse from when he doesn't have talent at wr to throw to he struggles. Or well he needs a run game, now it's he needs a line. Then Even in the years he has had all that he still struggled in the biggest games

My point is people always point to the well he took the team to 5 playoffs and gives him credit for that, even though only 2013 and 2015 did his play really have an impact. So if people are going to give him credit for those years when he didn't do much for them winning. Then he still deserves blame for the bad years too. If can't work both ways.

Also I still have no idea how we haven't seen him even yell or get upset at his line during a game. At this point I would love to see that, that would at least show some leadership by him. Instead we literally have two people who are one in the same in Marvin and Dalton. Good people, average coach and player, who are not leaders or mentally strong for big moments.

Pretty much right on the money!!

Being something like the 38th largest media market in the NFL also might have something to do with it.

No one outside of Cincinnati gives a rats patoot about the Bengals. To the fans of the big city teams we are nothing but a mid-market backwater franchise that fills out the NFL schedule on a weekly basis.

I've got nothing against trying to be your best and being disappointed when we look shabby - but the constant high expectations (I blame the media) for a city lucky (or unlucky) to even have a franchise baffles me.

Yep, same thing nothing new. He has a really good game today and shots are still taken at him. The nature of the position, I guess. I worry game to game. This team ain't going to the Super Bowl with Tom Brady if this line is in place. They'd be better, though. But so would every team in the league.

AD was not the story today, but seems to be every week with some.

The offense was really out of sync at times today and I attribute it to the o-line, it is that simple.

I keep hearing talk about Dalton's lack of leadership. I don't know what you want him to do. Because here's the thing, Dalton doesn't control the roster makeup, the play calling (for the most part) or the substitution rotation/packages. Yeah, he could get in someone's face for something they did, but really, what's that going to accomplish?

If he did that to a member of the defense (Tez? Jones? Dre?), what's going to happen? They're going to tell him to worry about his side of the ball, and get really ticked off if he did it in public (on the sideline during the game, or in a presser). And if he did it to a player on offense, what's he going to do...not give them the ball? Is he going to check out of a running play, just to spite Hill for not blocking better on a blitz? Is he not going to throw it to a wide open Boyd just because he didn't run the right route earlier in the game? Because if he does that, then everyone (including people here on BGP) will be all over him about not calling the right audible, or missing a wide open receiver. In the end, his only form of "discipline", aka leadership, just comes back to hurt him more.

Leadership has got to come from the top down. If Marvin lets the players get away with everything, then there's not a damn thing Dalton or anyone else is going to be able to do to police the problems. It's just not going to happen. Ben Roethlisberger may have had it up to here with Bryant, but even he couldn't tell him he's not playing this week. Only the head coach is going to be able to do that.

Chad Johnson got away with running his own routes for years here. Why? Because Carson Palmer wasn't a leader? No. Because, Marvin allowed it. The reason why he lasted only a year in New England had less to do with Brady, and more to do with The Hoodie.

I look at Dalton pretty much along the same lines as I view Joey Votto. (And yes, I readily admit Votto's skillset is much higher than his some of his peers, as compared to Dalton, but the situation is very much the same.) Votto goes about his business, and tries to lead more by example. He's not a rah-rah type of guy. He's a lead-by-example type. Keep your mouth shut and take care of what you can. Don't toss your teammates under the bus. Don't become a distraction. To some people, that's not their definition of a "leader". To me, I'm fine with it.

Phillip Rivers wears his emotions on his sleeve. Maybe he's considered more of a "leader" to some people. Yet the Chargers are 3-5 right now. Kirk Cousins is very emotional. Skins are 3-4. Stafford? The highest paid player in the game right now? Surely he's a leader. But the Lions are 3-3 going into their game tonight. Heck, even Matty "Ice" is having a hard time getting the Falcons to win each week.

There's four guys who probably have better skills and maybe considered more of a "leader" for their team...and yet it hasn't translated to more W's this year than Dalton. Football is a team game. If it was just up to one person, the Packers would've beat the Falcons the last two times they've played. Heck, just watching the Ohio State-Penn State game last night shows just how much special teams can affect a team's outcome.

The Bengals have many problems. Leadership may be one of them, but it's not Andy Dalton that we should be looking at. And assuming we're not going to see Mikey sell the team just because we say so...there's only one other guy at the top who has the power.

Sorry for the rant.

This also.

If Isaac Curtis, Ken Riley and Ken Anderson played for the Cowboys, Giants, Raiders, Steelers, or Packers they'd be in the Hall of Fame. Green Bay, Oakland and Pittsburgh are not big markets but have huge viewership. So it is not only market size, it is fan support quantity. The bengals lack both market size and fan quantity support.

The ownership and continued striving for mediocrity at the high end are the reason for the bolded. The Bengals under Mikey are getting more than they deserve from the fans. The fans who line his pockets every week are the problem--I spoke with my wallet this year and am thrilled!!

The line is bad. However I'm sorry if I don't think throwing for only 240 is a good game when 70 of it came from a pass behind the line on a screen. I don't think it's a good game when he threw passes as guys feet even when he had time. I don't think it's a good game when you have time and Green is one on one open and you never look at him and throw an incomplete as someones feet. Then to see Green upset and take himself out and just flick his hand back in the direction of Dalton and shake his head and walk off is a problem.

On plays when he literally has no time, are not the plays i get upset about. So I'm sorry if I don't get excited about what his rating was. When it's another game he and the offense scored less than 20. Other teams like Seattle has a horrible line, even Houston with a rookie qb. Even those qbs are still making passes even with no time. Dalton basically needs everything around him to be perfect for him to get this offense to score. That's a problem.

Too bad you can't fire an owner. Mike Brown is not going nowhere until he dies, sells out, or passes it on to his heirs.

With revenue sharing, like the NFL has, Brown has no incentive to put a competitive team on the field unless he wants to. He makes his money whether the stadium is full or empty.

God will probably punish me for this, but the best thing to happen to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was the death of Huge Culverhouse.

John Ross. He will fix this offense next week.
Marvin said he only dressed this week because Core was hurt? What kind of franchise doesn't make their top 10 pick part of the gameplan?

I agree with both you and fc. I don't think any QB could play better behind this line than Andy is. The Bengals essentially have zero running game and Andy basically has enough to time to maybe look to his first read before being flushed out of the pocket. But I also am not sold that AD is a guy a feel comfortable with out there for big games. This is something that has taken me a long to come around on. Maybe it's that I just want to see something different and the same old, same old just seems stale. AD is kind of a stale guy. He's a super good and genuine guy, I've met him in public several times and every time he was willing to talk for a few minutes and sign some autographs for other fans around. I will always root for Andy Dalton, I just kind of want a change of scenery.

Sure was cold down there for 10/29.

On the bright side, you probably didn't have to schlep around as much ice to keep the beer cold, did you? :lol2:

On a side note, saw a kid trying to sell popcorn. Came down our aisle a couple of times. Both times he looked fully loaded, and both times he left without selling any. I thought this was a poor vending move anyway. I mean, who's going to take off their gloves to eat something that isn't going to warm them up anyway? Kid might as well have been selling ice cream bars. Didn't understand that at all.

You are correct there. Definitely need much ice. Just keep some on top so it looks cold.

Idk about the popcorn either. Saw a couple younger guys selling what I assumed was hot chocolate. Probably did really well.
