Highlands is just depleted on talent. It sounds like from the Bird fans on here help is on the way but they are experiencing tough times right now.

So the HHS O-line is decimated. Does anyone know how long the hurt lineman are out? All year or are will they be back?

Not that I blame them for getting in their licks on HHS while they are able, but Highlands will go back to being Highlands fairly soon and then that little kid down the street will be taking down the big boys once again.

 

Why wouldn't they go for a running clock? Every team would do that.

98 they ran up the score, since I have been watching over the past 10 seasons it was score on every possession in the first half if possible and first drive of the second. After that, 2nd team came in and would score a couple. I never saw anything outlandish, just good depth

I guess those years of not allowing "Outside district" kids to enroll at Highlands a few years back is paying off.

So no other schools have or ever had out of distict kids on their roster. It's funny that most schools probably do and HHS gets dinged for it because they were very good. We have proven time and time again that the percent of true out of distirct kids has been very small in the grand scheme of things over the years. Sure, everyone remembers the big impact kids, but how many were there really over the course of that time compared to the true number of ft Thomas kids that played. You might be able to come up with 10-15 super impact out of district kids over the last 20 years. How many ft Thomas kids went thru and were impactful in the same time. People only want to remember what they want and then tie every big out of district name to the reason for their success. That's comical! It's not like they all played together and carried the program the last 20 years. Again, comical.

I've only seen Ryle play once this year and it was against Boone Co. But from reading this thread it seems that attempting onside kicks is standard procedure for the Raiders. They continued to attempt the onside kick far into the 4th quarter against Boone when the game was well in hand. Boone covered every one of them but it was rather puzzling to me that they would keep doing this. I don't particularly think Ryle's coaches were trying to run up the score but I'm not sure.

 

Can someone from Union shed some light on this? It could be just a philosophy of the coaches. Is it a strategy Ryle regularly employs? Were they practicing in case it is needed in a future game, say for instance, against SK? Their kicker is quite capable of kicking it deep. Were they trying to avoid Boone's return men who can both take it to the house? I am not disturbed by this but find it interesting that it was done in the Boone game so often and apparently against Highlands, as well.
