REALY.................... In 2011 when Highlands beat Ryle by 49. And in 2012 when they beat Ryle by 45. The Highlands fans got on BGP and told the Ryle fans to stop their crying. If you don't like it. Get better. Or if you don't like it stop us. Now Ryle wins by 36 and you say they are showing poor sportsmanship. REALY.........

 

I thought this conversation was started by someone saying that HH ran the score up for years and now they are getting a taste. Not the other way around.

I can't answer for him but I can for me about national polls. I really think the only ones who cared about national polls are those who are

fans of the teams on those national polls. To me I could care less about national polls because they don't mean anything. People talk about the KY polls and how horrible they are, well national polls are even worse. There is no way of even coming close to ranking teams nationally. I garuntee you ever year there are teams not in the national polls that would win against some teams that are on those polls.

 

If if your team isn't on the national poll why would you even care who is on the poll? I can garuntee I never once in the past 50

years went out every week to see who was nationally ranked. So if he someone says they moved here from out of state and never heard of Highlands before he moved

here, I'd believe him. Why should he have heard of Highlands unless he follows the national polls which I would bet the majority of high school football fans don't do. I would even go as far as to bet the majority of people on BGP if asked right now who was #1 ranked team nationally wouldn't have a clue. I don't.

 

To tell you the truth, I never knew Highlands was ever ranked in any national poll at anytime until I became a member on here. Just something I never paid attention to since Gerry Faust days at Moeller back in the 70's.

I've been in the sidelines during Coooer games when running clocks start and Borchers purposely preventing his team from scoring. I don't remember Dale ever doing that. Shoot I rememeber the state title game Cooper was in and down by only 14 and with a minute left in the game BG completes a deep pass to N Fant and he gets tackled on the 3 yard line, the next play BG takes a knee when they could have easily tried to score. That shown a ton of class for a classy program. Would Dale of done that? Doubt it. It wasn't in his blood imo and again, I wouldn't have a problem with it if they did score another TD. It is what it is but to answer your question, go read my definition of what I think running the score up is.

There are probably a dozen teams on the national poll today I have never heard of. So yes that is what I'm saying.

But early in the season, coaches need to get their teams as many snaps as possible to show they can finish and continue grinding out a win later in the season.

Hey RC, take it as a badge of honor that people remember the beat downs Highkands would put on them years back and still bring up those beat downs today as some type of revenge factor. It speaks volumes for what a great program HHS had that people enjoy this much when they can beat HHS.

I'm a birds fan, I don't think the score was run up on them, birds were beat in almost every aspect of the game Friday. Everyone I have talked to about the game said HH needs to get better not that Ryle should have let up.

HB, I think people get "defensive" when they hear someone state that their team "ran up the score". "Running up the score" comes across(perception) as something intentional with malice toward the other team. While I don't know Dale, I'm pretty sure he never ran up the score with the intent of sending a message to the other teams.

I agree. Referencing an earlier post. I would have a bigger issue with the varsity squad coming out of half-time in jeans and sweat shirts

I've only seen Ryle play once this year and it was against Boone Co. But from reading this thread it seems that attempting onside kicks is standard procedure for the Raiders. They continued to attempt the onside kick far into the 4th quarter against Boone when the game was well in hand. Boone covered every one of them but it was rather puzzling to me that they would keep doing this. I don't particularly think Ryle's coaches were trying to run up the score but I'm not sure.

 

Can someone from Union shed some light on this? It could be just a philosophy of the coaches. Is it a strategy Ryle regularly employs? Were they practicing in case it is needed in a future game, say for instance, against SK? Their kicker is quite capable of kicking it deep. Were they trying to avoid Boone's return men who can both take it to the house? I am not disturbed by this but find it interesting that it was done in the Boone game so often and apparently against Highlands, as well.[/QUOT

 

A few things can explain. Vs Henry Clay, they let them back in the game because of special teams and giving up returns. Secondly, Ryles D is very underrated this year and they have done a great job. Haven't given up a 1st quarter score this year. Giving up well below 100 yds rushing per game average. So I think they on sides kick, get a chance to recover the ball, if they don't, let the D do their thing. If they do, let the O do their thing. Maybe part of it is lack of confidence in their Kick off coverage. But this is me thinking out loud.

Sorry for the back to back posts. I can tell you that the players don't care if they lose by 14 or 48. They're mad either way. Players only get butt hurt from losing period. It seems that parents are the ones getting butt hurt. They should learn from their kids as crazy as it sounds. If their kid isn't butt hurt, then you shouldn't be. On the other hand, If a coach is butt hurt, he isn't a good coach. Good coaches don't care about the final score. They only care about having the larger number when the clock ends in the 4th quarter.

Birds historically have scored in bunches. I would never let up against them until the final series when a knee ends it.
