Ryle is a force for sure but this showing by the Birds has to make people wonder if they'll even make a solid playoff run.

I know some people say freshman football has nothing to do with varsity but Ryle beat highlands 42-0, Campbell county beat them in overtime, CovCath beat them 14-6 and highlands beat Cooper. It looks kind of like this season so far. They were 5-4 and a very average football team.

They won't beat Cov Cath.

Holmes isn't in their district and isn't on Highlands schedule

I think it's a shock because of how bad the Birds played and how bad the score/game actually was. Ryle is very good, but the Birds are not as bad as they played. See Cooper and SC. So I think if you take the fact that they looked bad and were beat THAT bad, is what is the shocking part for some. Im sure the injuries didn't help on offense, but Ryle seemed like they could have scored 100 if they wanted to and that had nothing to do with 3 offensive linemen being out.

 

I'm confident our kids will find some consistency and playing these bigger athletic teams will help them in the long run...just like last year.

I'm confused and this is a serious question - kids get to pick where they play in football? Doesn't the coach tell them where to play?

Go back to man blocking, D coordinator needs to go back to his role as a position coach, weinrich needs to be coaching the D, Scott turner needs to be the main position coach for the lineman...... just for starters.

 

I have issues with the conditioning program, but I already know your response to those so I won't go there.

It's about the Jimmy and Joes and not the X's and O's. It cracks me up how when a team is down for a couple years, everyone thinks it's the end of the world. Highlands had one of the craziest runs ever in Ky hs history. Really good football players aren't just produced in a lab in Ft Thomas like some people would like to think. The people who follow Highlands football knew this was coming. Guess what though the Birds will be back sooner than later. There are a lot of really good younger football players coming up. So have your fun now the butt whoopins will start back up in a year or two..

My thoughts exactly.

But on the flip side, the kid may very well just let the defense through without trying, since he doesn't want to play there.

So I think it's really more like the kid decides where he wants to play, coach decides whether he gets off the bench.

And this is this dilemma that is holding Highlands back from greatness? :deadhorse:

 

From greatness? No. Not at all.

Greatness has been achieved over the last 100+ years. It will take more than a couple of years of being average to take that away.

I guess those years of not allowing "Outside district" kids to enroll at Highlands a few years back is paying off.

I wouldn't use the Cooper game to show how good HHS, Just sayin. Cooper had more to do with them losing than anything else.

I don't think that Highlands being the best in NKY consistently is close to finished, but I do think the years of 28 plus point beat downs on the 6A schools up here are. As I said earlier, the teams up here have finally committed the resources and effort that the Birds have been been dedicated to for a very long time. They are starting to pay off. I don't see another school that will consistently be the top of NKY 6A as it will rotate by certain classes, but whoever is at the top will be a real player. For me as a fan of NKY football, that is awesome. It will make HHS and CovCath step it up even more and the overall depth of football will result in better football. We have finally gotten to a point where SK, Ryle, CC, and Cooper are putting it together at the same time. 6A is finally a true gauntlet.
