Bracken County cancels all away sporting events with Augusta and St. Patrick

Bracken just won a district title in football...

In a very competitive 5 team seeded district where due to the tie-breaker, EVERY SINGLE GAME YOU PLAY MATTERS. Makes for much better involvement because not only are you looking at your games, you're looking to see how everyone else in your district is doing because it directly effects your season.

St Pat BOE made the decision yesterday to cancel their games at Bracken County, which was supposed to be a Girl/Boy Double Header for Bracken County senior night.

Who didn't see that one coming. Just glad they did it now and not later.

I guess I am kind of in Bracken's corner here. If they feel this strongly about seeding, why not back up your words with actions? If St. Pat's is one of the teams refusing to seed, what else could Bracken County possible do to show how passionate they are about the issue? And if the district is a blind draw, then this is just one of the consequences of it. If St. Pat's wants the game back, then next year cast a vote to seed.

I thought they finished 2nd due to tie breakers?

It all boils down to this coming boys basketball season, as Bracken County has their last really good team in awhile and fears being paired up with Mason County in the semifinals of the district. The Bears just need to man up and have the ability to beat every team in their district, then the draw will not matter.

Shouldn't be that way. Every team should be able to earn the right for better seeding based on regular seeding. What St. Pat and Augusta are doing is just wrong. They are just exploiting the system for little benefit.

I find this situation really interesting and see why the schools vote the way they do, as each votes consistent with what they believe to be in their best interest. I don't consider that to be exploiting the system, as suggested. And while Bracken County certainly has the right to decide not to play away games with St. Pat and Augusta, it seems a little like they are trying to bully St. Pat and Augusta into changing their votes.

Kudos to Mason County for playing at St. Pat this year.

Wouldn't it be something if Mason County cancelled their game @ Saint Patrick.. Bracken and Mason need to work together if they want anything to change.

Why did they wait til now and not cancel asap like Augusta?

tie breakers just determine seeding, not championships.

I guess I can see both sides. If that is the system that is in place, then they are just playing within the rules to do something that helps themselves and, in their mind, the players. And that also gives Bracken the right to not schedule them anymore.

I am curious to know if the actual high school players at St. Pat and Augusta like the current system or want to change to seeding.

Back in the day it was a matter of money as much as anything else. Being able to call yourself a district runnerup and 10th Region basketball tournament participant was less important than the payday. Not sure if that's still the driving force or not.

Also why the Demings (now Robertson County) of the world elected to draw.

I support the decision 100%. Us not playing Augusta and St Pat only takes away 4 wins from every program. I'm for seeding, in years that it helps or hurts.

Is there not a three way tie with Nicholas and Brossart for the 5th district football? All three teams were beaten once in their district.

Why did they wait til now and not cancel asap like Augusta?

My guess? The giant "seed the district" banner at the volleyball tournament made them a little salty. I was surprised the game was scheduled in the first place.
