Why even have a regular season then?

 

Following that rationale, why have a district tournament? If you want to make sure that two specific teams make it to the regional tournament, then dispense with the district tournament and put what somebody thinks are the best two teams from each district in the regional tournament.

It seems that Augusta and Saint Patrick's only reason for wanting to draw is because their teams are mediocre and second-rate compared to Mason and Bracken County. Without the sugar-coating I'm basically saying they suck and want to take advantage of the current system. And they know it, Bracken knows it, Mason knows it, and everyone in the state knows it.

After the game Saint Pat's coach Chuck Hamilton said this about Korbin: "She killed us last year and she killed us this year. You put her (Korbin Florer) on our team and we'll see who wins." I could not help but die laughing because St Pat. couldn't even hit the ball over the net. Their coach basically just said if St Pat had Korbin they would be district champs. :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I don't disagree with the thought that they support the current system because they think it is in their best interest to do so, but isn't Augusta something like 13-2 against Bracken County in basketball over the past 5 years? Perhaps Bracken County can turn the tide this year - oh, wait, I heard they're not playing this season. Is that true?

Longer answer

 

St pat is playing a b/g double header on BC senior night. BC took the position of if you don't want to seed then we are not playing you in the regular season unless you come to Brooksville and play.

 

As long as Robin Kelsch is at the helm in A-town they will not vote for seeding and BC will not play them because BC isn't going to A-town and Augusta is damn sure not going to Brooksville.

 

BC is firm is their stance and Mason Co is on board with them for the most part. Not so much for the other 2.

 

What BC did with their decision urinated (word filter got me :lol2:) off Kelsch on a personal level and with his ego bruised he will never wavier on his stance.

Unfortunately, ones/fan bases, alliances to their respective schools and the emotions that go with that, along with recent history amongst these schools have gotten in the way of this being a productive debate. It's easy to say that , "since it's been this way, others have dealt with it, so leave it alone."But if the forementioned alliances and emotions were removed, it's hard to argue against the concept of each student-athlete from each school simply earning/competing for/playing their way into their position in the district tournament.

Until the KHSAA steps in and does something about this district nothing is going to happen. And if St. Pat and Augusta draw each other this year in the 39th then the winner of the 37th, 38th, or 40th district might as well have a bye in the 10th region tournament.

For many years Augusta has hung their hat on the luck of the draw. Whether it was in the old 38th (AHS, BC, PC, RC), old 39th ( AHS, FC, MC, RC, SP) or the current lineup. From 1983 to 2005 the draw gave the Panthers favorable matchups every once in awhile but it was not to be. In 2006 the Panthers finally returned to the 10th region tournament and have also done so in 8 of the last 10 seasons. Some of those draws were in our favor while others were not. But thanks to the draw, the opportunity was there and a few times we overcame a "bad draw" and punched our ticket. We knew the recent stretch of success would pass and we would have to rebuild. Despite what may be a down season on the horizon, Augusta still wants a chance at post season glory and the draw gives us the best chance.

Please don't assume that because BC took their ball and went home that the fight became a stronger one. It's not a fight, it's a difference of opinion and at the end of the day, it is what's best for the student athletes at Augusta Independent Schools. As for Robin's ego, don't worry, he's just fine.

As I stated in a much earlier post, I want to see both of these schools succeed, but this continued notion that Bracken is "taking their ball and going home" is nonsense. Them taking a stance to achieve the ability for ALL teams to have the equal opportunity to earn their position in the district tournament is not nearly as arrogant as saying "I'm doing what's best for me, the heck with the rest of you."

One is suggesting equal opportunity, the other is not.

History of teams success or forecasts of their future success or lack thereof should have no bearing on any of this.

I've seen many posts on Facebook and hear about stuff on Twitter about this thread. I want Augusta players to screenshot this as well: Of course they could screenshot and post that one post because guess what, there only is one valid reason for the draw. So Augusta and St Pat can contrinue to screw deserving Bracken and Mason County teams out of region. While we watch a waterered down regional tournament with a team that has no business being there.

 

For Augusta fans who said Bracken needs to man up and beat Mason County in the first round I've go lt news for you. You're back in reality of getting beat by 20 night in and night out, and better hope that you don't beat Nicholas County in the first round of All A and play Bracken County.
