We are all born in to different socio-economic backgrounds that either make our path easier to success or much harder. If the sole reasoning behind seeding is because it is fair then schools should be divided like congressional districts except go one step farther and mandate all schools have an equal amount of boys and a equal amount of girls. Life isn't fair nor it should be. Thats what makes it special when you overcome obstacles put before you that people have said you can not overcome. So, it sounds like you're in favor of someone or in this case, a team going out and working hard each and every day, week, month, etc. to earn everything they get and not have anything handed to them????

In the case you are referencing the argument can be made that the teams wanting to seed wants something handed to them as well. I am in favor of playing the hand you are dealt and not complaining about whats fair or not fair, because it can be argued nothing is fair under any given circumstance. Sure be upset about it but don't ostracize the other side for their position. People only complain about what is not fair when the other guy has an perceived advantage. They only complain when the perceived advantage is against them. You will not hear them complain when they are the ones with the advantage.

You must have lost logic somewhere. None of those teams are in the same district, are they?

Absolutely not, and as a result they are just rivalries whose game result has no impact on seeding. The game is played and enjoyed by all because they are longstanding rivalries. Play for no reason other than the honor of competiting on the battlefield. That's what it ultimately is about.

If a team gets to the region by "luck of the draw", it messes with the competitive balance of the region.

Why should a team be entitled to play the "least best" in a grouping, if ultimately they have to beat everyone to be considered "the best" ?

 

The flawed logic is that seeding v non-seeding makes less difference to a team that has less talent also less important to win....that's why a predominate Bracken County argument exists in this situation. Bracken is concerned with drawing Mason in the first round of sport X and someone else getting a "free pass"....they do not seem to be as concerned about a similar benefit for their route to "the best".

Happens around a month before each tournament (volleyball, basketball, baseball & softball) All the coaches and AD's meet up at the host school and draw. Not anything special

So you'd be in favor of seeing Duke-Kentucky, North Carolina-Villanova play in the first round of the tournament with the winners playing Alabama A&M-Holy Cross and Florida A&M-North Carolina A&T? Sure sounds like it.

All I know is that there are several trophies (baseball, softball and volleyball) in trophy cases that weren't earned. The only sports within the district that have had three teams competitive has been boy's basketball. Generally it's been two competitive teams with two teams that could very well be two of the ten worst teams in the statr, especially in baseball and softball.

A team that won their first game in a district tournament has ZERO right to get a trophy or be in a regional tournament whatsoever, especially when the other two teams that deserve to be there would beat them 30-0.

To be best, you have to beat the best is correct. But you should be beating the best in the finals, not the first round.

 

Why not in the first round? I would just as well see a match up in the first round of two good teams fighting it out for a place in the regional tourney. I s there no interest in good district tournament games? Why do the good matchups have to be in the district finals or regional tourney only?

Yep, no problem at all. If you think that the NCAA doesn't make those matchups intentionally you are missing it.

 

If, in the case of high school district seeding, you are a team that is confident you are the best, then who cares if you seed or play your way to the finals.

 

Here's the rub: If you don't believe you are the best, then you are willing to settle for 2nd (first loser) as a means to get yourself to the Regional tournament. How does that make any sense ? The argument being made is that it is unfair because the 2nd best team may get eliminated....if you were 2nd best, you were never going to be the winner anyway.

 

Stop playing scared, play the best, beat the best, be the best....very simple
