Bracken County cancels all away sporting events with Augusta and St. Patrick

You keep saying not good for the young people, I've got one playing that could care less about this situation, actually you can put me in there as well. This was/is about baseball and softball that clearly Augusta and st.pat care nothing about or they would play a full schedule.

How pathetic are your excuses, there it is "your hands out palms up". "Not me, I had no part in this." If a guest doesn't think your home is esteemed enough to visit, how can a guest feel welcome there? Fellow BGPer I know there's no hate coming from AIS or SPS, those schools do not operate that way and neither did the BCHS that I cheered for and graduated from. This is not out of your hands and it falls squarely into your lap. And it is up to the BCHS administration to stop this immediately, this is a terrible situation for all these students.

@Sportsaholic Mamaw you say do what's best for the kids, but the kids don't care if they play Augusta. The only one who cares if Augusta/Bracken play is Augusta. I've talked to alumni and kids of BC. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT PLAYING AUGUSTA

The "yesterday society" wasn't full of entitled kids who were rewarded just for trying.

Participation awards have been around forever. My generation got them (I was born in 1970), and the leagues I played in had mandatory playing time rules up through the age of 15. And people have always gotten gold watches just for showing up to work everyday. Not being great, not being the best employee on site...just for showing up and doing their job. If people didn't get rewarded for being average, half the world wouldn't have anything.

1000% this

The people who have played in this rivalry know the passion the two teams play with when they play each other. Neither team wants to lose and the atmosphere is amazing. No other team that either school plays all year brings this atmosphere. If Bracken county kids and administration doesn't care about playing Augusta I believe they have found the problem themselves. This is why Bracken county will always be mediocre because the people in charge there don't understand passion and heart for the game if they are going to end this rivalry. SMH.

Maybe we can get some passion and heart transfer in.

This doesn't exactly mesh with the "they don't care about playing Augusta" mindset.

That's too bad.

How the hell does 1 or 2 games decide if a team is mediocre?? What does that have to do with how much heart is on the team? Cmon man your reaching now.

I think AD Fisher and coach Hinson know all about the "rivalry" or whatever you wanna call it. 148-49 is the record in favor of Bracken. Not much of a rivalry over the entire history of the meetings of these two teams.

I know the last 5 years have favored Augusta enough to make the games interesting but again some love to live in the past. Smdh

You really don't know what you are talking about. Record doesn't have nothing to do with it . It is about the atmosphere the passion the heart of the cross town shoot out and don't forget the crowd. Bracken county has to realize that they are not talented enough to win on skill. If they played with passion and heart like they do against Augusta in the other games they could do big things this year.

I guess I don't @Brackengrad95. At least in your eyes. For an alumni you sure like to tear the program down.

Get behind your school and support how hard is that. Smh

There's a lot of alumni, maybe old school style that do not like any of this. I keep telling you all that it hurts the community. Every time I see games with bad press on the news, the teams and parents are all involved and angry. I think these games have been so good for our communities, they have always been intense rivalries yet displayed good sportsmanship. As a parent, do you not make responsible choices for what is best in life for your child? Your children aren't old enough to realize the lasting importance of commitment to their neighbors, and I'm not talking only sports. And fundraisers are more supported rival crowds ( and vice versa) like Augusta and St. Pat, these people all are intertwined by community, schools, church or families. We always support one another in times of crisis. Guys, these games are more than sports.

I don't have any idea if you have always lived in Bracken County, but I have. Born, raised, educated and raised my family and run a business. These games do matter, maybe not as instant gratification but in memory and friendship. This is NOT just about those two sports, it's about the entire community. Maybe there needs to be a poll. I don't know where you get that Augusta and St. Patrick don't care about playing those two sports. The A boys and St. P girls looked very happy. Not much in your important picture but happiness in their own. I do agree with you on one thing, they need to be able to field teams and play more games. I know it must be hard with such small schools. But each one of those kids who suit up on game day are there to try to contribute to their school.

No, this is not a good example to set for young people, community does mean something. These schools have always pulled for one another in tournaments. I remember one year the BCHS cheerleaders put up a large banner that said this way to state during regional play for one of the district teams that was in regional play. Why is that spirit not there now? It takes more than sports to raise a citizen, there's compassion, support, helping out your fellow man in times of need, sympathy and prayers and fundraisers during illness or accidents. And education, many of the athletes from District schools have excelled academically and received scholarships and not all were sports related, but if their time allowed they might try to be a walk on since they love sports or join an intramural league team. A lot of these young people are friends and some are cousins. And no, as families, we do not like it. And yes, it is what it is until someone blinks. Not good for anyone.
