Tonight's debate

Featured Replies

Just my two cents, but I think the powers-that-be believe it is more important to remove Trump's name from the GOP ticket - even if it means an Independent run by Trump - than it is to find the best path to the Presidency. If his name is away from the ticket it may help prevent the colossal meltdown of the Republicans relinquishing congressional power. 34 Senate seats are up for grabs.

Based on history, an independent isn't likely to win. If Trump is an independent, Clinton is the Democrat, and any of the Rubio/Cruz/Kasich crew were the Republican, who does Trump take votes from? Who wins?

How do you come up with one plan that would put a dent in 19 trillion? If we could just get the interest taken care of so it wasn't increasing at the rate it is now would be a huge help...Or we could just print 19 trillion dollar bills.

Well it would start with reducing the budget deficit or getting to a surplus.

Is this a pipe dream?

Not one that was asked off all the candidates, but they absolutely grilled Trump. For instance, they asked Trump what he would cut from the budget to control the deficit and after he answered they pulled up a graphic to show what he said would hardly put a dent in it and asked him to explain. He appeared befuddled. I can't remember something like that from another debate. And I wish they would do that more often and with all of the candidates.

Thanks. That would be outstanding if the candidates actually had to know what they're talking about and be able to defend their policies.

It's been balanced in my lifetime. But I suppose that's a question I would direct to one of the various presidential candidates who claim they will do it while also massively slashing taxes, increasing military spending, and not taking away anyone's Social Security or Medicare.

Why isn't the national media covering the Kentucky caucus and it's 46 delegate prize. They have barely mentioned the Bluegrass State.

As far as in-state reporting Matt Jones was able to get a call in interview from Rubio this morning on his UK sports show. Nothing new from the interview, just Rubio talking faster than a Nascar engine with the same message he uses over and over.

They all say the same thing over and over and over....on both sides of the isle.

Hillary easily wins. I think the establishment just wants his name removed as being of any association with the party to preserve power. If his name is on the ticket, they fear it may cost them more than just the Presidency.

The other three absolutely have to say they would support Trump if he gets the nomination. They lose votes quickly if they allude to supporting Hillary over Trump. They may as well drop out of the race for saying something like that.

Yeah...it was a dumb question, in my opinion.

I thought he was talking super fast as well. I wonder how many voters he picked up by calling Coach Cal a legend in the first 30 seconds of the interview lol.

Except I wonder how many UK fans skip the caucus to watch the game Saturday. :lol2:

I think you're right. They don't want the structure and philosophy of the Republican Party to change and with Trump they know there will definitely be changes. The party's old line power brokers feel they've been hijacked.

Bill Clinton ran surpluses.

Well...really the surpluses can from capital gains since the stock market just went up and up at a steady pace during the Clinton years.

Lesson learned - the only way to have a shot a balanced budget is with a steadily, long term rise in the stock market since income from capital gains is uncapped. But with the 'monitization' of the stock market its probably not happening.

And interest on debt will create a runaway effect if the deficit spending is not halted in next couple of years.

I can't see how lil Marco or Lying Ted can say they will support Donald. Why not say they will support anybody else on this stage, or I will write-in Gilligan, but I will not support Donald Trump.

Correct on all accounts.

None of them can afford to alienate the largest block of republican voters. Campaign suicide right there.
