I'll say this too: I've seen a lot of people say postseason bans punish innocent players but yet to see anyone else offer reasonable solution to pacify an unpredictable NCAA.

 

Postpone the post season ban till next year and give current players the right to leave with no sit out period if the don't want to be affected by the post season ban. If they decide to stay, at least they were given a choice unlike these current players.

As far as Lee and Lewis are concerned, supposedly they were going to UL to further their graduate studies in a program that was unavailable at their previous school. I see nothing in Ramsey's declaration that will hinder that. They still get a free education.

I wish the NCAA would do away with the practice of punishing innocent kids for the things greedy adults do....

 

A post season ban for this years team is not fair to the current group of players who to my knowledge, did nothing wrong.

 

I honestly believe the best punishment would be in the form of vacating past wins, immediate firing of all those involved and some sort of astronomical fine. Money rules absolutely every aspect of major collegiate sports. Hit the universities where it hurts...in the wallet.

Honestly I don't think that will happen. Maybe a scholarship reduction or two and Pitino may have to sit out for a few games next season, but I doubt that the NCAA hits them with another post season ban.

 

However that's just me being logical given that the violations are somewhat minor. You do have to remember UL is in the ACC now though and the NCAA is really upset with UNC, so they could put the hammer down on anyone else not named Duke in the conference at any moment to show displeasure with UNC's 20 years of cheating.

Of course it is. But our opinions and the NCAA's opinion differ. The NCAA rewards you if you self impose sanctions on yourself, even if you denied any guilt prior to said self imposed sanctions. If you don't self impose sanctions and the NCAA actually has to do their job, they tend to be a little more harsh on you.

 

In this situation, UL didn't bring these violations to the NCAA on their own, Katrina Powell and her publisher did. So essentially part of the NCAA's work was already done for them. To UL's credit, once they were exposed, they decided that they should start their own investigation and self report themselves. Once they concluded their investigation, now they self impose sanctions on this years team, granted that this years team has done nothing wrong.

 

Alas, here we are, UL should just get a slap on the wrist from this point on since the self imposed sanctions on themselves. It makes everything easier on the NCAA, less paperwork, etc. So in the end, you get rewarded for it as a program. The only people that will suffer from this are players on this years team.

Towles example doesn't work. He could've still played at Kentucky because he hadn't exhausted 4 years of eligibility. Same for Poythress.

 

An example would be if after next season Derek Willis decides to enroll in grad school at Kentucky. He would not be eligible to play for UK in the 2017-2018 season as a 5th year senior. If he decided to enroll in grad school at say Notre Dame, in a program that UK didn't offer, he would be eligible as a 5th year grad transfer.

No. You get 5 years to play 4. If you graduate after playing only 3 years, you can be a grad transfer. No one is allowed to play 5 years...

And if Louisville does nothing now? Or acts in any way the NCAA deems unsatisfactory? How bad would it be then?

 

If there were long-term punishments it would be awfully easy to recruit against Louisville. That's one of the things they're trying to avoid.
