Nope, but guys like Dan Dakich, Pat Forde, John Feinstein, Jeff Goodman, etc. would love nothing more than to bury that guy. And believe me, they have a lot more clout than any of the guys you mentioned.

While I agree that this likely isn't the end and the NCAA will add to UL's self imposed punishment. It seems like they could have imposed something lighter like suspending Pitino for the rest of this season, which would still allow this group of kids to play in the post season. All the while they would still be acknowledging lack of institutional control by Mr. Pitino. Yes, the NCAA would likely hand down their own punishment next season on top of that, but it would have given these kids a chance to play in the tournament.

 

Your a smart man, you and I both know that the real reason UL imposed a post season ban for this year is in an attempt at damage control for years moving forward. If any type of post season ban didn't happen until next season it would effect recruiting in a big way and also open up the door for returning players to transfer out. It still may, because I doubt the NCAA is done with this, but I don't believe they will face any other post season bans. Any other punishment will be light, a scholarship reduction or two and possibly a 5 game suspension or so for Pitino.

 

It's just sad that they essentially threw this years kids under the bus, to save themselves from taking a hit in recruiting, which is ironic, since that's what caused this whole mess anyway.

Correct. It's usually guys that only played during three of the years they were at their original institution and so have graduated but have a fourth year they can play under NCAA rules.

 

That said, if we're still living under the impression that major college sports have anything to do with education, then they've earned their degree and ought to be free to take their graduate studies at any school they choose.

In truth, given that the NCAA could conceivably give this team another year when their investigation is done, I don't think you can get rid of Pitino until you know what the NCAA is going to do. No way do you saddle another coach with this mess unless you have to.

"Members of the press" is a loose term. Lots of people write about sports, post it on a website and pretend to be members of the media. Jones is one of those folks, he just has more "access" than most.
