My thought was to suspend him due to lack of institutional control for the rest of the season then go from there off from what the NCAA decides to do. But obviously by doing that, they would still face a post season ban at some point. That is the only problem I have with these self imposed sanctions. Essentially, they are tossing the kids that are currently on the team under the bus, to hopefully save themselves going forward, in terms of recruiting. Your theory of firing him due to lack of instiutional control is something that I hadn't thought of, but it makes perfect sense. If they had the basketballs to fire him today, that would be a big statement to the NCAA and likely lessen any other punishment they would receive.
February 6, 201610 yr I like the idea that was posted above about Pitino stepping down versus a postseason ban. Perhaps this would not placate the NCAA. However, what if Louisville announced that Pitino would not coach the rest of the season and that any revenue generated from postseason participation would be donated to a related cause like abused women or something similar? That would hold Pitino accountable for the offenses that happened underneath his administration and would prevent the University from benefiting in any way financially but would not penalize this year's players who were not involved. I believe Pitino would actually get positive response if he took that action versus the way this was handled today Fire Pitino for lack of institutional control... February 6, 201610 yr Article on page M2 of today's Wall Street Journal: Rick Pitino has relisted his Miami home in Indian Creek Village for $25.9 million. If Ramsey goes, I've heard a couple of comments that Jerry Abramson might be interested in the presidency of UL, but isn't he too old---------68 +/-? He listed it a few days ago I believe, I mentioned it last night in the thread about who will be UL's next coach. Personally I think he's gone, as soon as UL finds out from the NCAA that this will be their only post season ban. He will be UNLV's next coach IMO, sell his house in Miami and buy one in southern cali that he can frequent after games.

The real problem is that enforcement of rules is a strange scatter plot of results you simply can't anticipate. It's like the SEC or the NFL: lots of issues when the people that are supposed to be governing are the same as the ones being governed.

They just beat North Carolina and this year there is no dominate team and I think it's up for grabs. UL had as good shot as anyone. Good players, good coach = great chance Anyway, as Mr Rogers would say "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood"
