To be fair, they have a very good chance at winning something this year. On the other hand, do you potentially sacrifice something for one season, to potentially save the next 4?
February 6, 201610 yr CBS Sports Gary Parrish says the rule needs to be changed and say that once a season starts there cannot be a self-imposed or NCAA-imposed post-season ban for the current year. Louisville selfishly punishes seniors by self-imposing late postseason ban I would be completely for it. Otherwise schools will continue to use it to their advantage, just as UL is attempting to do.
February 6, 201610 yr UL absolutely had a chance to win it all this year. It makes me wonder how terrible the infractions are that have been discovered ? To be honest, I think UL believes it is bad. Otherwise I don't think they would have reacted so quickly without having a clue what the NCAA is thinking. IMO they are trying to pacify the NCAA by saying "Hey, you caught us" and self implying their own sanctions well before the NCAA has even concluded their investigation, in hopes of getting a slap on the wrist from this point on. When the story first came out and after reading the book, I believed these infractions would be deemed minor, which they probably will from this point on since UL "disciplined" themselves. But the fact that UL acted so quickly on this makes me wonder why they would do so, unless this is actually worse than originally anticipated.

If there is ever an instance that I would quit hitting the deny button and admit guilt, this issue with UNC would be the perfect opportunity to do so. Otherwise either UNC gets the death penalty or everyone else thats ever been punished by the NCAA revolts and you will see most teams leave the NCAA.

That's about it Any school getting the DP won't impact the NCAA bottom line. In fact that school would lose thier share of TV money, so NCAA and ACC would make more money per school if UNC gets hammered.
February 6, 201610 yr Should a school try to lessen the penalty? Specifically, in a situation like this? My point is that NCAA sanctions are supposed to penalize the programs that break rules. Any school with major infractions should have a tougher road or else there is really no point in the rules. If the NCAA decides to punish Louisville, it should feel like a punishment. That's why I think this self-sanction is really bad for the current kids who were not a part of it. Let the University suffer after these kids have left. That would be what would really deter this kind of crap. Sanction for next year and immediately release players of their scholarships if they want to leave. That way anyone that wants out can get out or not come. No school is honest enough to do that though. Too much money invovled.

That's about it If your right, expect it to be the end of the NCAA as we know it. Which in turn would mean zero money for them. The football side of things have already figured out they don't need the NCAA to succeed. If the NCAA cannot be consistent with punishments they hand down in other sports, basketball will be the next sport that figures it out. If not for being a regulatory substance to college sports, what purpose does the NCAA even serve? If they let UNC off the hook, the NCAA will be done and over with. IMO, UNC will get hammered. Like you said the NCAA likes money. They will lose a lot more money if everyone realizes they are negligent and not worth being a part of, than if they take whatever hit they will lose from UNC, which would be minimal, by the way. The idea the UNC controls the NCAA due to money is laughable, they have a lot more to lose than UNC if they don't start treating all schools fairly.
