Pitino has said that McGee had no part in recruiting players and wouldn't have received credit if a player did sign. They way Pitino was talking there was zero incentive for McGee to do any of this.

 

That makes perfect sense, until you start throwing boosters into the mix. Maybe he was just trying to appease the boosters.

Hey, I did not say Dakich is perfect. Sounds like he said something wrong and took the tweet down. I just think people now saying the guy is an idiot or does not know anything about college basketball are wrong. He has been intimately involved with it for 30-40 years now (as a player, assistant coach, head coach and commenter). In general, he knows what he is talking about I find him interesting to listen to...

This feels appropriate here regarding my feelings on Dakich:

Based on things he's said in the past, I believe the man has a narrow view of the world based on what his own experience is and never bothers to consider the experience of others when making his judgments. It is a deliberate ignorance he speaks from when he says stuff like this. A good basketball mind with little subtlety of thought regarding anything outside basketball.

 

In the end, what I mean in this specific case is this: he had an opinion on the transfer rule based on his initial reaction to it without bothering to think though what the actual motivations and effects of the rule are. He was clearly embarrassed by what he said or he wouldn't have deleted it. He said something without thinking and that's usually the sort of thing that deserves ridicule and he got it.

Doug Gotlieb basically said the same thing Dakich tweeted when interview during the UK game. Said he didn't feel sorry for players that transfered and left thier old school behind.

What I meant is that he is supposed to have control over the athletic department, that's part of his job title. Yet no one is calling for his head. Even though some of you want Pitino and Ramsey gone.

I can only speak for myself. It's not Jurich's job to make sure the basketball program runs the way it's supposed to. That's the job of the basketball staff. Sure it is his responsibility indirectly, but you want to fire the AD over something an assistant coach did? Really?

So fire Pitino and the school President and let Jurich keep his job? That makes a ton of sense. It sounds like being an A.D. at a high level school may be one of the best jobs in the country. If YOUR athletics programs ever get in trouble you can just push the blame off on everyone else. If the A.D has no responsibility for what is going on inside the schools programs, what exactly is their job?

I think most of the basketball analyst are tools...football has a few, but basketball is full of haters way more than football is.

I agree, the only way the AD gets drug down is if the NCAA finds a culture of non-compliance across the athletic department.
