Towles is not very good, but neither is UK, I hope they both do better apart then they did together. In his defense I think the Staff at UK and the Offense especially is a hot mess. Not on the same page, and sure of themselves and in the SEC that loses.

UL has Petrino who has a great reputation with QB's. And then you have UK's... Coaching is a huge factor in all of this IMO

I am sure there is more to it and it may come out at a later time. The bottom line is he was not developing at UK and he feels he needs a change of scenery.

If you had a credible people telling you that you had a legitimate shot to go to the NFL, in one way or another, would you honestly stay at a program like Kentucky, who has shown almost zero ability to develop a QB. There is no doubt he loves Kentucky, but at some point you have to start thinking with your brain and not with your heart.

I don't think this was strictly a "UK" issue. It really boils down to playing time and I get that. If Pat was going to be the starter next year Pat would still be at UK IMO.

I agree with that to an extent. But, there is no denying that the QB coach/ lack of a surrounding cast at UK did a pretty awful job at developing his talent. If he was the projected starter for next year, the only logical explanation for him to come back would be because his love of UK, not because he felt it gave him the best chance to make it to the NFL.

 

To make it clear, I am not saying that he is a world beater by any means. However, I do believe he is better than what he showed at UK. Under the right coaching and with an average to slightly above average supporting cast I think he will have a much better showing.

14 home grown NFL players, most of them underachievers in some way, that went to UK and still made it in the NFL...the most important part of this list is that UK has never been a powerhouse / "winning" program and these guys still went there and made it.

 

Yes meaning if you are talented enough the NFL will find you. Some people are acting like coaching is going to keep people from going to the NFL.

My response was to your "why would he stay at UK" question posed previously. It wasn't because of NFL aspirations (and I do think we'll see him in a camp).

Kentucky fans are loyal to a fault...Jeff Brady is a good example of the NFL finding someone that didn't hit the radar, an outlier for sure.

 

I believe Towles is better than he has had an opportunity to show and I believe it has to do with a number of reasons.

 

It is wholly unfair to put UK's "failure" on Patrick Towles shoulders. This program is not good, the coaches are average at best (I don't care if your name is Stoops or not) and ultimately I think we got what we expected from UK football this year.

 

If you expected more, then you are a total homer for UK.
