It's hard to compare the two considering joker had already been in the program for 8 years berfore taking over for Brooks. If I'm not mistaken Joker was the recruiting coordinator for Brooks when they had two 8 wins seasons.

 

You are correct that Joker was a primary recruiter under Brooks staff. The recruiting from the Brooks era and Jokers era were similar, however Joker did less with the same type of talent.

I'm not sure I would agree with that. I think Brooks left once he saw the talent was running thin.

Why do you think Pat thought he was entitled to start and didn't want to work. Didn't he spend a whole summer working out in CA with a QB guru to better his mechanics and to become a better qb to win his spot. Didn't he beat out Drew during competition to win his spot. Now that he has his degree and Drew has been named starter, why can't he go to another school to take another shot? Either way, the kid has his degree with the hopes of going into politics one day. Life should work out just fine for him.

 

I recall threads with Stoops discussing all the extra work PT had been putting in during his off seasons. Sure didn't sound like someone who thought he was entitled to the position.

A majority of PTs issues are issues a good coach can iron out. A good coach can teach him to read a defense correctly and where to throw it when.

 

Dorian Baker alone had 2 balls hit his hand that ended up in the other teams hands, one at USC, and the other I think Auburn. If he had any help he could have been an above average D1 QB at UK. I fear/hope for his sake, wherever he goes next will prosper way better than UK will. Won't be surprised to see him starting at a perennial top 25 BCS school, or a MAC school.

 

This coaching staff failed PT, and I really think it might fail Barker too.

14 interceptions, 9 touchdowns. Can't pin that on OL, receivers, or coaches.

That said, the reason Brooks left had nothing to do with recruiting. He never had great recruiting classes, but was great at coaching them up and developing players. The reason Brooks left was because he was an old man and ready to retire.

So why was he benched in favor of Barker? I watched every UK game this year, I was at every home game. Majority of towels "bad games" are dropped passes im talking his really bad games. Yes he does throw high and behind but thats mostly due to not stepping into his throw enough which tends to make you throw high.

 

Here is the thing Towles had had 2 years to prove himself and for 2 years he has been inconsistent with his play getting worst as the year goes on. Towles has more interceptions than touchdowns this year and barely completing 50 percent of his passes. So while he was not the only problem, very few qbs keep their job without the coaches at least looking at someone else along the way.

 

With Barker they didn't know what they had until he played. Which after two games you still don't know what you have. His second half looked like second halves that Towles has had too and that is not being close to completing a pass.

I will say it again,,,,Baker is the problem. Give him his walking papers. Off the field issues and talks way too much for a dude that cannot catch a cold.

Even though I blasted Towles for attitude, feeling entitled I can understand and agree with what you're saying. I am just an "All In" / "team" person and can't stand to see players quit when things don't go their way.

Even though imo Stoops has really done a great / better than I expected job in recruiting .... He is a First Year head coach and seems to have given the entire offense to the OC. Stoops is the head coach, even though yes, he has put confidence in the OC, he needs to oversee it. After all, this is his program.

It's refreshing to see all of the love PT is getting online. Says a lot about UK fans.

I am definitely glad he has worked in the class rooms and has a degree. After all that is what it's supposed to be about. I realize that he worked hard and earned, was named the starter. That was before season and when his inconsistent play continued, a change was made.

As I said in my post above, I just don't like seeing guys quit / want out bc things don't go their way. I wish him well, just think that he thought that he was entitled o the job permnantly and to me anyway no ones job is. That's all.

I'm a die hard UK football fan who watches every game from beginning to end no matter how bad we are getting beat. With that being said, the way UK fans treat/act toward Pat is ridiculous. He cared more than anyone on the field every game. I honestly wouldn't care if he went to another SEC school and came back and torched us because of this. Huge fan of his and will follow him wherever he ends up.

I get what your saying. But to be fair to the guys doing the recruiting, they have made huge commitment to recruiting linemen. They have several of the top targets in the country verbally committed at the moment. Whether those guys honor that commitment or not and actually sign the paperwork i dunno. But the staff is at least trying to bring help in.
