The fact that Towles TD-INT ratio is flipped can be pinpointed 100% to how bad Dawson is in comparison to Neal Brown. No QB regresses that much, on top of that the scheme is horrendous, and the line is horrendous which makes for bad and forced throws. Then again we can talk about the drops over and over again, which then force more tight throws which lead to interceptions.

 

Yes I saw things that Towles did that a QB at his level should not be throwing like throwing to the single receiver in a 3x1 set when the defense is sitting in a 2 high look, or doing the exact opposite when the defense rolls the safety down into the box pre snap. Thing is, these are things that should be ironed out by a coach and if he doesn't know where to throw the ball that is on the coaches, or his wide outs not creating separation.

 

Here is the thing, do you know for sure the coaches aren't teaching them that? At the end of the day the QB is the one in a live situation who has to make the read and decision. You can coach them up all day on it, but they have to be the one who follows through on it.

 

As for the coaching in regards to Towles stats. Towles last six games last year while Brown was still here he threw only 4 touchdowns and had 5 interceptions. He had only 3 games last year where he completed 60% or more of his passes. Honestly the only good game he had against a good team even last year was against Florida and even that game the threw 3 interceptions.

 

I know it is not all on Towles, but some people act like all the other things were the only reasons why he looked bad. I know you put a lot on the OC apparently, but as I just shown you, it wasn't like Towles did so much better last year. His last 6 games last year looked a lot like his whole season this year.

 

A fresh start will be a good thing for him.

No they wont. They have Maguire for next year and then two stud QB's right behind him. The Freshman Francois and then Malik Henry coming in next year as a freshman. Those two will be great under Jimbo. I don't think they need to waste a scholarship on PT.

I don't disagree at all, like I said this thread is insane it has 2 parties. NKY people who think he can win the Heisman and start for the most elite programs in the country, and could walk in and start for Oregon, Bama, LSU, and Michigan. Then you have the other camp which look like the typical UK'ers who blame everyone just like Neal Brown was blamed (look what you got in Dawson) blames Towles (Barker looks great 6-22 passing) never started before that for a reason.

 

I think Towles has all the measurables, a big arm, athleticism, height to see over the line, experience in the toughest conference in the country, and he is someone who has faced adversity which coaches like.

 

What I don't know because I haven't been to any UK practices under Dawson but did go to several last season is this, what are the QB's being coached? What I see in Towles is one of two things, he either can't keep his cool and makes bad reads, or he is not being taught properly. That is why I gave the 3x1 vs 1 and 2 high safety analogy because that's almost a cut and dry read. When you get 2x2 sets the reads become murkier regardless of the number of safeties vs number of bodies in the box. If he was only throwing bad passes in the 2x2 or pro style sets (which they sparingly use) I would say ok here is a kid who just hasn't been coached up properly on how to read balanced offensive sets but when I see a kid misread obvious 3x1 sets I have to wonder whats going on.

 

With that said I think this is a kid who deserves a shot at another D1 school, I think North Carolina, ECU, Tulsa, Indiana, WKU, Bowling Green State would be some great options for him where offenses fit his style. This would give us an accurate read on rather or not it truly was the coaching (which I think most of it was) vs the player himself. If it was the player himself then next season we will know. I believe had coach Brown still been in Lexington this would have been a bowl eligible UK teams and Towles would have been playing at an all SEC level, that is how poorly I think of Dawson.

I definitely understand what you are saying. However in terms of you using Barker going 6 for 22 to show that he shouldn't have been starting. You do realize that Towles in his last two games as a starter went 8 for 21 and 10 for 26. That is a completion percentage of 38%. Which is barely better than what Barker did, and that is with Barker making only his second start, while Towles was on games 19 and 20 as a starter. So that makes no sense to me for people who act like that one game shows Towles is clearly better, when with all that experience Towles put up similar numbers in his last two starts as Barker did in his only two starts. Jackson only threw for 500 less yards than Towles, more touchdowns, and fewer interceptions.

 

Not to mention 734 rushing yards.

Your basing one game on his reads on short throws and the deep ball. His first start he looked fine throwing the short and intermediate routes as well as the other games he came in like the Vandy game. Those same short throws is what has made Towles so inconsistent because he is inaccurate on short throws but does have a pretty deep ball.

 

Barker could end up producing better than Towles or worst. However you seem to be making a judgement on him based off of one game with the same offensive coordinator, wrs and oline that you have said is part of the reason for Towles poor play. Yet you seem to have your mind made up on Drew based off of one game. Which that came after taking second string reps in practice all season.

A week on a high school field throwing against air isn't going to help the UK QB. The point was he needs coaches around him.

If you're a legit D1 talent, and Patrick most definitely was coming out of HHS, then GO TO A TRUE FOOTBALL SCHOOL with a proven track record and system. I've watched so many promising kids from KY get derailed in college by letting in-state loyalty cloud their judgment of what's truly best for their future. I love that they're all committed to where they came from, but IMO, that doesn't justify passing up better opportunities in established programs that will give you a better chance of success.
