How many QB's in Division 1 could you say that about?

I think a lot of them would do well at LSU, but I think Towles would thrive. LSU has always had a great running game and talented receivers, but they've hardly ever had a QB who could take the top off a defense with the deep ball like Towles can. I'm by no means saying Towles is the second coming of Tom Brady or anything, but if your QB can throw the deep ball and all of the sudden teams are playing more 2 and 3 deep zones against you instead of putting 7 in the box every play, you have a pretty good formula for success.

Recruiting is always better the first few years when a new coach comes in. The SEC east is weak right now compared to past years.

I disagree. I realize he is a hometown, in state kid but he imo thought he was somehow entitled to the spot, was above anyone and everyone on the team.

I realize the soft in his hand may have been a little much and I will apologize for that ... only. As for the rest of the post, I'll stand by what I believe. Should you disagree then that's fine, I certainly won't call you classless over your opinion. After all, isn't that (different opinions) what this board is about ?

 

Why do you think Pat thought he was entitled to start and didn't want to work. Didn't he spend a whole summer working out in CA with a QB guru to better his mechanics and to become a better qb to win his spot. Didn't he beat out Drew during competition to win his spot. Now that he has his degree and Drew has been named starter, why can't he go to another school to take another shot? Either way, the kid has his degree with the hopes of going into politics one day. Life should work out just fine for him.

Teams are playing straight man to man on the recievers and rushing 7. Sorry I should have elaborated a little more. What I mean though is teams would drop linebackers into coverage a lot more with Towles than they do against LSU currently. Then keep the safeties deep so Towles can't throw over the top, but then Fournette will have all day to run. He won't be getting touched. I mean it's still an if as to whether Towles will be able to do this, but he certainly has the intangibles to be able to and for most coaches that is enough to at least take a shot on a kid. Les has never had a great QB, but his best teams are when he has a big strong armed QB to stretch the defense.

Why not? How many tipped passes turned into interceptions because of bad receivers? How many interceptions were directly related to a bad O line? Lets see these stats.

 

I am trying to remember, but I do not remember any tipped passes picked off by the other team. And I might be wrong on this, but I don't think he threw any interceptions as a result of the line breaking down. He was pretty good at throwing it into the stands or taking the sack. If I am not mistaken, which I could be, most of his interceptions were just like the one Saturday against Louisville, ill advised throws!

This thread is insane!!! No way is Towles going to go to LSU or Alabama and walk in and start at a NC caliber team. At the same time no way in the world is he a bad player, he had one of the worst O lines in the entire country playing in front of him, and it was bar none the worst in the SEC. His receivers had to have the most dropped passes of any team in the SEC by a large margin as well. If anyone seriously does not see the talent this kid posses they are either people who do not like UK, or truly don't understand football and listen to commentators and media people talk (who also don't know football)

 

Towles was by far the best QB on the roster and there is a reason he started all season, Barker never should have been on the field and the staff handled the situation all wrong when they kept talking about Barker over and over and making Towles look over his shoulder.

 

Towles will start at a D-1 school next year no doubt, and he will without a doubt put up good numbers, I can't fault this kid one bit for leaving the train wreck that is Mark Stoops, and Shannon Dawson. He was done terribly wrong at UK, and is a very good college QB, but he is not super elite Heisman candidate like bluebird homers are suggesting either.

Towles was by far the best QB on the roster and there is a reason he started all season, Barker never should have been on the field and the staff handled the situation all wrong when they kept talking about Barker over and over and making Towles look over his shoulder.

 

 

Didn't happen. They made it VERY CLEAR that PT was the starter and would be the starter in both their words and their actions. They CLEARLY stated they wanted to get Drew reps IN CASE he was needed down the road. That is a surprise to people?

So why was he benched in favor of Barker? I watched every UK game this year, I was at every home game. Majority of towels "bad games" are dropped passes im talking his really bad games. Yes he does throw high and behind but thats mostly due to not stepping into his throw enough which tends to make you throw high.

I agree with everything except the fact that he couldn't start at LSU or Bama. No he won't be a Heisman candidate, but he is way better than Brandon Harris and he marginally better than Jake Coker. If those schools don't want him thats one thing, but he could definitely win the starting job at both of those places if he went there.

I can't answer the why with 100% confidence so I'll leave that up to the staff.

 

Your argument that Pat always had to look over his shoulder is not supported with statements by the staff nor by actions of the staff.

Everyone keeps saying the Patrick has the intangibles to be successful. I think mean he has the tangibles instead. He's got the measurables: size, strength, arm strength etc. What seems to be lacking are his intangibles: pre-snap reads, following his progressions, pocket presence etc. There are a lot of guys that have all the tangibles that don't work out because they don't have the intangibles. We'll see if Pat's struggles were due to him not having those intangibles or if it was a product of a poor team.

It's hard to compare the two considering joker had already been in the program for 8 years berfore taking over for Brooks. If I'm not mistaken Joker was the recruiting coordinator for Brooks when they had two 8 wins seasons.

Towles had 10 games this year alone to prove he was hands down the best QB on the roster. He didn't do that. Yes there were drops, yes the O line sucked, but Towles had his share of issues. Throwing high, behind, holding the ball to long, not getting through progressions fast enough. You know the lines sucks so you know you don't have much time. Either get the ball out or run.
