Time for Barker. Please

Featured Replies

The coaching staff said it was a play calling, protection and drop issue. As much as I think I'm an expert, I'll trust in the guys that get paid to make those decisions.

Besides, I don't think that Drew is as good as Pat. It's that simple. Easy to cheer for the back up but the guy is a back up for a reason.

This....period

So, when does the OC get some of the grief? You can't keep the edge rushers out and they're rushing four and not one QB draw that I recall. Want to slow the rush and cause them to commit another in the box? Well, run a draw with a kid who is more than able. Silly if you ask me. Oh, and Towles is what he is. He's not going to get miraculously more accurate. I'd be shocked if Barker would be an upgrade. But what do I know?

Agree, Towles needs to be a threat to run, would open up the offense.

I just don't see it as being that simple.

What is the staff supposed to say? "He was awful and couldn't throw a simple slant?" They would never get another commitment.

Also the back up stuff is overplayed IMO. Brady was a back up to Bledsoe until he played (granted it was injury driven but did anyone think Bledsoe was starting again when healthy). When your margin for error is as slim as UK's and you have not found the endzone in 6 qtrs tough decisions have to be made.

[For the record I do not think Barker is the next Tom Brady or anything crazy, I just do not think the difference between the 1st string and 2nd string is going to be a MASSIVE difference.]

How do you even know what you got with Barker? Yes he's a highly recruited kid but put him out there against thag same Gator D and he gets worked.

If Baker doesn't drop that 1st qtr TD pass there is no heat on Towles. Jmo

Yes he missed a couple throws and took a silly sack but Stoops isn't going to throw him overboard.

According to some posters Barker was suppose to play the first game but that never happened.

Oh my!

I saw enough of Joker and Neal Brown to not be impressed. I need to see a little bit more of Shannon Dawson before I can accurately evaluate.

Everyone quit complaining.

We used to have Elliot Ulizak

We don't know what we have in Barker. That's the point of the whole thread. We know what we have in Towles. Been watching it for over a year now. If Barker can't prove to be better than Towles then every UK football fan needs to just accept that no matter how many 3 and 4 star recruits that Stoops brings in UK is still going to suck in football. Big Blue Madness is coming.

The offense was so bad from top to bottom, I didn't even realize PT had that bad of a game. Heck I didn't even realize UK threw it 24 times. There are bigger issues to this offense than the QB.

The issue is this. If you would rather have a QB who is less than 50% completion with more Int's than TD's in his last 7 games and don't want to see if your other guy can do better then Towles is your man.

Flawed logic based on playing 3 pretty good football teams. The coaches made the decision to play Pat after watching him in the weight room, training room, meeting room and practice field for the past 3 years. Drew's been there for nearly 2 years as well. The coaches have way more information that us and they are the experts. They obviously believe that drew wouldn't perform as well as Pat or they'd make a change. Their well being and careers are determined by the success of the quarterbacks...no reason not to play the better player.

That is what I've been saying since spring ball.

I think if Barker doesn't get a shot this year and soon it sends a lack of faith about Barker than anything. For such a highly touted recruit, if he is t a better option than PT at this point it may be time to start recruiting heavy on another QB.

Barker's immaturity shows the lack of faith he has earned through his actions...kid is not very mature and certainly not a team leader, nor does he seem to demonstrate leadership qualities overall.

I don't care how highly recruited this kid was, his inability to get out of his own way is a problem....

Highly recruited?

Per UK depth chart this week...

OFFENSE

Quarterback

14 — Patrick Towles (6-5, 240, Jr.)

7 — Drew Barker (6-3, 225, RFr.)

12 — Reese Phillips (6-2, 225, So.)

Ahhhh, the annual post after UK loses their first game.

Everyone chill out.

When UK beats Missouri by 17 this Saturday all will be well, and Patty Ice will be a Heisman candidate.

I don't care how highly recruited this kid was, his inability to get out of his own way is a problem....

Can you elaborate?
