My wife works at the sheriff's department, I told her not to listen to it. She cares deeply about all of her guys in the department. But because of one of them that a little bit special to her, I told her that she didn't want to hear this.

It's not that you want to, but sometimes you need to. It keeps you from becoming complacent which is easy to do. In this day and age, I think the media should be forced to listen to it, to show the results of some of agenda driven news reporting. Reporting False and half truths from Ferguson directly correlate to this Trooper losing his life. The blood of both these men is on the medias hands

I appreciate where you're coming from in that this hits close to home, but blaming the media for this is like blaming guns for a school shooting.

It's not that you want to, but sometimes you need to. It keeps you from becoming complacent which is easy to do. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I can't see how you can't see the direct connection. The media played up the Ferguson situation and further drove a wedge to deepen the divide. The killer in this case was directly involved the "hands up don't shoot" in Ferguson and brought his media fueled hate to Kentucky and killed one of the good guys. I for one hope he rots in Hell.

They were on the way.

It's a very rural area of 24. KSP areas are not like cities. Backup is often the next county over.

Troopers are often by themselves. They are taught how to handle anything that comes at them. Just like they handled that idiot who shot the trooper.

That's the thing about KSP. In some areas you're on an island, the closest backup may be 5-10 miles out and having to take back roads. I've heard stories from troopers where their nearest back up was a half an hour out. Just not the same as what you get in the more urban areas.

My dad was a rookie with KSP in about 1968. Only trooper in Casey County. He and the county sheriff.

That's crazy thinking about it and with what Clyde said, sometimes 1-2 guys are patrolling the entire county.

Troopers were coming and it sounded as if they had just made it another mile or so down the road there were Troopers with stop sticks waiting for them.
