I'd be curious to hear the details of the officers capturing/killing this guy.

 

There are times where I don't care if a line has to be crossed. This would have been one of those times. Just write it up so everyone is protected.

 

I'm sure they were able to articulate the threat and the reasoning for the use of deadly force.

 

KSP doesn't (unless they got them recently) have body cameras as far as I know, wondering if it was recorded by officer from another department.

Shoulder/upper chest area

 

Assuming the guy had a pistol with an unknown caliber, probably 9 or .40 a Level II is designed to stop pistol calibers but we are seeing them fail a lot now. Nothing is guaranteed and I'm sure they have a disclaimer stating that.

The guy (murderer) did post on snap chat while on the run.

If KSP SRT team was handling the situation would they allow anyone else in there?

Depends on if it was still an ongoing manhunt. If he hadn't been found yet there were probably officers from several agencies there still involved in the manhunt when he was finally found. I would guess there were others there at the time.

As quickly as he lost consciousness I'd bet a bullet fragment went into a vital organ. He was out pretty quickly it sounded from listening to the audio.

Or upper chest. During the audio you hear the first officer that arrives on scene describing the wounds as being shoulder wounds. What those rounds do once they enter the body such as splinter or ricochete all depending on what they hit. Gun shot wounds are very unpredictable.

 

I agree with what you're saying. Really hoping Trooper Ponders vest didn't fail him though.

Have they released anything on the weapon used?

Not practical but this is how every officer would be dressed if it was left up to my wife...

People don't think all the time, and only after their bone-headed action do they realize what they have done, not only to the other person, but also to themselves.

 

Not saying it's an excuse.

It doesn't matter how the KSP handled it. They got the job done. Sometimes it's better if people don't know what happens. The bad guy got what he deserved. Bravo KSP.

As a gun guy, I would not recommend a police officer to use a level 2 anymore, it's the most commonly used armor but at close range we've seen in fail twice this summer locally. I would instead buy my own a level 3a vest.
