September 14, 201511 yr How does James Blake come into this story? My point is that we (society) are quick to blame an officer for anything he/she does. And then we are slow to blame others when officers are in the right, even when it means an officer dies. Blake calling for an officer - who was just doing his job to the best of his ability - to be fired is shameful. There should be 10x more outrage (make that 100X more) concerning this poor officer who lost his life doing his job. But 10 years from now people will remember that Blake got tackled in a case of mistaken identity, while no one will remember Ponder's name.
September 14, 201511 yr Your posts have nothing to do with this tragic event, has nothing to do with Blake, and your posts do nothing to respect the tragic death of the officer. Wrong.
September 14, 201511 yr Wrong. Nope, he's 100% correct. You've single handedly derailed and ruined the thread. Way to try to take a tragedy and turn it into some ridiculous statement.
September 14, 201511 yr His Mom originally hired me at my current employer. I worked with her and his sister for many years. Briefly worked with Cameron. Great family. Such a tragic loss. I hope they can find healing.
September 14, 201511 yr We can all lament the officer on BGP, and rightfully so. I'm talking about the bigger societal problem. Let's see if Yahoo posts as many stories about Ponder (which they should!) relative to the number of stories about Blake. And I promise you no one on this forum feels worse for that officer. I have a friend in KSP, one in LMPD and two cousins in law enforcement - one a sherrif's deputy and one in the Secret Service. They have been deserving of more respect - and less criticism - for a long time now.
September 14, 201511 yr So did this piece of crap shot at the cruiser while they were moving? The story just says he took off, Trp. Ponder gave chase, then the low life fired at the cruiser striking Ponder. Also said he has been caught, is alive but injured. Must have fallen down or something while they were arresting him. That's exactly the first thing I thought of also. I wonder if this is being reported correctly? It's a scary time to be an officer. Prayers out for this family. Senseless.

Hopefully multiple times. I also hope his apparent lack of balance continues in custody.
September 14, 201511 yr I wonder how James Blake feels about this? Last I saw James Blake said he didn't think race was involved in his incident but by all means carry on with your agenda.
September 14, 201511 yr Suspect was shot and captured, was flown to a local hospital according to a report I read this morning. Suspect shot through his back window and into the Troopers car hitting him while he was still in the car I think. He pulled him over and then for some reason took off and the Trooper chased him approximately 9 miles when the suspect abruptly slammed on his brakes and the Troopers cars slid into the back of his car and at that point he opened fire on the Trooper. Prayers for his family and all Law Enforcement this morning.

September 14, 201511 yr My apologies for being too controversial in the "Controversial Issues" forum. I simply feel that society (not me personally or any specific person on this forum) wants to say, "Oh I feel so bad for this officer's family" in a situation like this, but when the situation is reversed (cop is the shooter) we bring celebrity status and/or race and/or socioeconomic status and/or (pick something else) into the equation. If all those things don't belong in the discussion of this tragic death then why are they a part of so many other threads? May officer Ponder rest in peace; he gets three decades of my rosary today (my kids always get one :-) ). The folks who think I am insensitive to this issue get the final one.
September 14, 201511 yr RIP brother. Glad they caught the punk responsible. Curious as to what his reasoning was for fleeing or opening fire on the officer.

Normally in threads like this when an officer is shot and people take the thread in an undeserving direction then they normally get called out for it. Part of the reason it is so hard to have a civil, respectable discussion about race and its place in events in society is because of the tone of the beginning of the conversation. Every incident is an isolated incident and sometimes race and socioeconomic factors or are relevant to an incident and in some cases they have nothing to do with it. Because of social media and the ability for everyone to truly speak their mind on how they feel having a discussion about race is almost pointless at this current time. I'm just going to continue to try to do right by all people I encounter and treat everyone with courtesy and respect.
