I have seen embarrassing behavior by public and parochial school parents alike. Actually was kind of made tongue in cheek, but there is not an emoji for that. Simply was trying to reference what you did so eloquently in that there are these type of issues throughout NKY and the state for that matter each and every year. Seems to be getting worse to be honest because some parents are taping games at a young age and then using them for what exactly?

 

It would appear that some do it so that there kids can have memories of their various athletic experiences and then there are others that do it to gather their kids stats and then get on here and brag about it. Have seen many a kid that dominated at the younger ages because of early growth only to sort of get left in the dust as they got older.

 

There should never be a time when a middle school kid should be the brunt of this nonsense no matter where they attend school

It was the regular season game at SV, Highlands won by 2. The player was #12, and indeed it wasn't much of a punch, but I'm not sure what else to call it.

I also never ever singled out Highlands, only mentioned I had video of games which include fan comments and activities, several of which I have sent to someone who requested it. I also agree that there is bad behavior all over, but the thread was regarding Highlands.

I personally attend games to watch my son and his team perform, besides being a fan of the game. I don't think I have ever seen a ref reverse a call because a fan yelled at him. I personally don't like to see taunting on the court, but my thoughts are that behavior is easily learned watching NBA or college ball, still I encourage my son not to do it.

Didn't really think my saying I had video proof would cause this much of a reaction, but the truth is the truth.

1st. Let's be objective here. SV's fans and head coach give Highlands fans a great run for their money.

 

2nd, Ahfeld pushed the player who was face guarding him while waiting for the ball to be inbounded. His hands got into the kid;s face if I remember. You made it sound like some sort of cheap shot. Ejection, looking back, was a fair enough call, but it wasn't like the SV player got cold cocked.

Might be better if games were played without any fanaticals watching.

I agree with most all of the recent statements.

I as a parent and fan can honestly try to watch the game, not yell our except to be encouraging but am not innocent of yelling other things time to time either. Samcro made some very good points that what I see one game and you see the next couple be two very different things.

 

I completely agree that the Highlands/SV games got very out of hand last year from both sides, on and off the court. And unfortunately has continued into this year.

 

Videos by parents can be used for multiple purposes but the parent videoing our games last year provided each family dvd copies of a couple games last year that we were very grateful for, so again two sided and can go either way.

 

All of that being said, the second half of my the schedules are starting back up and I say good luck to every kid and team.

Sportsmanship is not just for the player that is playing the game but also for fans who come to support their team or child. All you got to do is have some class when you win, hold your head high when you lose and respect your fellow competitor. It is something that foremost parents and then coaches NEED to teach.

I would like to thank Bball5088 for sending me clips from the game last year. He said he had the video and audio and he sent it to me as I requested.

 

 

The audio portion does contain a couple - important point here - of parents questioning calls late in the game. They are loud and the statements are directed at the officials for calls made in a close, contested game. It is not all HMS parents. It is not even close to the worst I have heard at games over the years. It happened and no it didn't change the outcome.

 

Now for "the punch". The video is 100% clear. Not even close to a punch. Ahlfeld and the big boy from SV were in close contact after a SV missed shot. HMS rebounded and were headed up court. Ahlfeld's jerked his left arm and elbow to free himself from contact with the SV player. His right hand nor arm never got close to the SV player. The official had no angle to see what he called. He was blocked by both players. The ejection never should have happened. There was no punch.

 

Now if you want to state that there was a foul during the contact, I could be convinced of that.

 

Thanks Bball5088 for providing the video for the play. I have heard it described by dozens of people who were at the game and those with second and third hand information. None of which had it right.

maybe it is just related to the posters at BGP, but it seems Highlands is in the middle of most of the commotion....whether it is against Camp Ernst, SV, St Pius, etc., it always seems to involve the same team. These comments are not being made when Jones, or Conner or Ockerman or any other schools are playing each other.

Some may recall, but this theme took place with a group of Gray middle school followers just a few years back. Those boys would be juniors in High School now. I find this situation very similar. As witness to both, I quite simply believe a few bad applies disparage the persona of the group as a whole.

 

The sad part is both teams were/are very good and the focus often has been taken away from the players/teams and their accomplishments. As someone who has been through it, my input is people need to step back & realize this is Grade School basketball, and does not mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of life.

 

Here's hoping this thread gets back to game scores, player recognitions & anticipation of the year end tourney.

Tichenor 8th grade is playing pretty good. Jones beat them back to back before and after break should begin to shore up the Small division playoff picture.

What are your takes on only 5 teams from each conference making the playoffs??

 

I think it's a travesty. Only 14 teams in whole league. Let them all play. What's one extra day of basketball, and one extra game.

How is IHM 7h grade doing? Anyone see them play? I know those guys well---hoping to get to a game soon. Saw Wyatt Vieth briefly and was impressed. Jude Bessler and Cory Shea are also nice players.
