Don't forget about Beechwood 7th grade. They have 3 kids that play up on the 8th grade and play a lot of minutes and sometimes start. If you put all those kids on the current 7th grade Beechwood team they would be hard to beat. The 7th grade would look like this Rolf, Mattingly, Draud, Downton, Decker, Henschen and Nachazel. If there is a bigger and deeper team than that I would like to see it..

I'm sure these young athletes will entertain all of us over next 5 years on both hardwood & football fields...

I would love for that to be able to happen. Unfortunately Beechwood will not allow the kids playing up to play at all with their classmates. I think it would be a very good game for sure..

A shoutout to both, SVA players, who have had a tough road this year, not having won a game yet. They competed for 3Q, moved the ball better, and played hard. And, a shoutout to Woodland, who seemed unlike themselves early, but pulled it together late for a nice win. They're a tough team.

 

7th-Woodland

Both teams played hard again. SVA couldn't hit a shot early, and Woodland was hitting on all cylinders. SVA down 7 at half and battled back to within 2 at one point. Down 4 with just over a minute left and a slew of mistakes overcame the Royals. Seemed like every time SVA had a chance to take it, a Woodland player hit a 3. They can shoot it. Woodland wins another well played contest.

Kudos to Woodland 8th. Those boys are playing hard. SVA has some injury issues, but gutted one out on the road.

52 for SVA 8th grade has some potential if he keeps working. Looked a bit raw but , wow, did he know how to find someone to block out and then go get the board. Very impressed with him.

Joe Riley Buten - Highlands 7th grade.

Physical freak with great handle and court vision. Although - football is his day job and hitting people & scoring TD's owns his heart so not sure how long he'll continue to hoop it up but he loves competing with his classmates for now. Over in Holiday West side catholic tourney game - he pinned/smacked two balls against the backboard on layup attempts by opponents ...he was running trailing play...he tends to do something like this each game...just physically at different level right now vs. peers - however his mom/dad are SMALL folks so he's swimming out of shallow end of gene pool for sure moving forward...

 

Reward that kid with some Orange Leaf I hear it's his favorite.

8th- Salter is continuing his growth and in my opinion looks better and better each game. Numerous blocks and put back baskets, all while staying out of foul trouble(hard to do at around 6'4) LOL. Ahlfeld had another big scoring night as he chipped in 22 pts. Many of those coming from assists from Huddleston. I'd have to double check Huddleston's stats but he was close to a triple double in rebounds, steals, and assists.

I still think you have that sometimes. I talk to other parents on other teams and most teams are pretty similar. You figure 80% of the points come from 2-3 kids on the team and that 2-3 kids may change a little as a different child may get hot one game but the core of the scoring comes from just a few. IMO, Usually the ones that need the stats aren't the ones putting up the stats. I think that Salter/Ahlfeld/Huddleston could care less about a triple double or scoring 30 pts a game as long as they win. They would be more interested in playing the whole time and just getting one dunk or a SportsCenter worthy block or diving steal and winning the game by 20 pts.
