Small league is the 10 teams seeded by conference wins.

How is IHM 7h grade doing? Anyone see them play? I know those guys well---hoping to get to a game soon. Saw Wyatt Vieth briefly and was impressed. Jude Bessler and Cory Shea are also nice players.

 

I saw them play against Highlands earlier in the year. I heard IHM was even missing someone and it was a dog fight. Went to OT. I don't think HMS has lost in 2 years and I thought for sure they were going to lose. HMS pulled out the win at the end but IHM is the real deal. The Vieth boy looked really good. He has height, weight and can dribble the ball well for his size.

What are your takes on only 5 teams from each conference making the playoffs??

 

I think it's a travesty. Only 14 teams in whole league. Let them all play. What's one extra day of basketball, and one extra game.

AD's dont want to play those games. AD's run the league.

Where are those district/division games being played? Do all grade levels play at same venue?

As a coach for almost 30 years, it is always fun to get to watch the middle school kids develop as players, and then follow them as they get into high school. I know I'll be missing a lot of names on this list, but wanted to throw out some 7th grade players to watch (players I have either seen through AAU, coached in AAU, or school league games):

Yeah, I went to college with his dad. He is CRAZY tall.

Reece Murphy (#0), point guard for St.Pius is very good; will be playing HS ball somewhere.

Joe Riley Buten - Highlands 7th grade.

Physical freak with great handle and court vision. Although - football is his day job and hitting people & scoring TD's owns his heart so not sure how long he'll continue to hoop it up but he loves competing with his classmates for now. Over in Holiday West side catholic tourney game - he pinned/smacked two balls against the backboard on layup attempts by opponents ...he was running trailing play...he tends to do something like this each game...just physically at different level right now vs. peers - however his mom/dad are SMALL folks so he's swimming out of shallow end of gene pool for sure moving forward...

He looked over matched against Holmes about 6 weeks ago. He might have been having a bad day. He will prob be at HC since his dad coaches there.

6th- Woodland beat them in their first meeting. SVA 6th is struggling, but has a really good player, last name Miller. He is tall, long, athletic and can handle the ball. If memory serves, Woodland 6th is pretty nice. Good guard play, and they have the son of NKU college hall of gamer, Shannon Minor, who is a nice player with good genes.

 

7th- have played twice, and both games were a war. SVA led almost the entire game in their first meeting, and lost by 2. In the second meeting, Woodland led most of the way and SVA pushed to OT. Woodland won in the extra quarter. Kelly Neace can just flat out play, and proffitt and their big (unsure of name) are also good. Both a far stretch from the way Woodland handled SVA last year. Maybe the 3rd time is a charm, but Woodland is tough.

 

8th- if history is any indication, SVA should win this one by a fair amount. That said, SVA 8th is once again without a very key contributor in Dearborn. He's a good player, but has a boot on his foot. Woodland has some nice kids, and with injury on the other side, you never know. Game being at Home for Woodland could be a difference maker, but the past has indicated SVA.

Osterbur from Conner and Kelly Neace from Woodland are two of the finer players in the 7th grade. Veith of IHM has good skill and a good head for the game. He is a player. Don't know any Highlands boys names, but they have a few boys that know the game and have some skill. SVA Trent Adkins is continuing to develop and getting much better. He's never played AAU. Kudos to all these young men.
