Woww! Had not heard either of these. Yes, both would be upsets. We don't have to be politically correct, haha! We know how good BW and CE are, and those other two teams are also good and play hard!

 

That said, it's the holidays... Teams could be missing players, etc.

CE is missing a couple but no excuses it was a close game to the end. Conner wanted it more. Then they lost there big in the fourth when they were up or down 1 with a rolled ankle. To be honest it was a very boring sloppy game. Congrats to Conner it was a big win for there team.

One of the bigs was missing and a point guard was missing.

Yes the other big for CE rolled his ankle he will miss a couple weeks in a boot not a break just a bad sprain

I have heard many good things about the Highlands boys 8th grade class, as far as it being a very talented group. I believe this is a group(if they stick together and keep working) that can restore Highlands to top tier status in the 9th region. There are some exceptional athletes in this grade.

 

But, unfortunately, I've heard from multiple sources, that there is behavior that needs to discontinue immediately. Things like taunting opposing players, coaches, and fans done by players and by parents with words or actions. Players clapping in opponents face. I've heard examples of parents shouting comments that could have only been made simply to draw someone's ire. Screaming at officials. This along with parents yelling across the floor at Highland's own coaches questioning strategy. Unacceptable. There's no place for it.

 

Remember, whether you went to Highlands or not, the coaches,parents, and the players are representing Highlands as a whole at these games. You may also be seen by or be playing against teams, A) that have kids whose parents attended Highlands B)contributing alumni c) prospective students, d) prospective residents. Go play hard, cheer, and give your best. Win or lose represent the city, the school, and yourself with class and dignity at all times.

So you've just heard from multiple sources all of this, so you decide to join BGP and post a long article of how the 8th grade kids and parents at Highlands need to change immediately? Oh, but they're talented. Come on, really?Thank you for your insight from the multiple others that you've "heard" from.

 

My son DOESN'T talk trash or clap in kids faces. He does play on that team and he plays a fair amount. I can tell you this, he doesn't care if your grandma went to Highlands and he doesn't care if a "contributing alum" or someone else might move into Ft Thomas, they want change the bad culture of the past and win. I'm not justifying the trash talking and clapping in kids faces. I'm not a fan of that. These kids win a lot and should act like they've been there, but your also talking about 1-2 kids of the 12-14 that are on the team.

 

Parents at HMS and just about every school we've been to are all cheering and screaming for there teams. We are not perfect that's for sure, I will say that I'm as guilty as the next person and shouldn't let bad calls and other parents get me going but it does and I end up joining in. Its definitely an opportunity for improvement for many not just HMS parents.

 

I really think Highlands is heading in the right direction. Listerman(high school coach) is doing a great job helping change that culture at Highlands. I think that really starts down in the 6th grade. The middle school is starting to change but that is just now happening. It will take a few years and a strong coaching directive from the high school to make that change permanent.

The players also whine and complain about officiating alot, usually incited by the critical comments from their fans. And, the kids aren't shy about yakking on the court.

 

The do have some nice players and they win their share of games. But, the over-reation towards officials and other teams fans sheds a negative light on their victories on the court. And, do you think all the complaining to officials "helps" you get the next borderline call? We can say it doesn't bother us, or that we ignore it....human nature proves that isn't true. I have no experience with the Birds. However, there are two people on the floor that can end the yapping if it happens.

Another Highlands athletes cant behave themselves post go figure.

This is all not new! Highlands Middle school basketball fans have never behaved. I remember a few years back a father of one of the players saying some very off color thing about a player on an other team. This was during the Dayton Tournament. The coach of the team the boy was playing for asked the Dayton Administration to address it, they did, it stopped. All in all Highlands does not have bad fans in High School but I must admit the middle school is bad.

Why is anybody calling out teenage boys?

I have seen some things I don't agree with and not just from HMS. Let's all keep in mind they are all still kids and have some learning to do, mentally and physically.

There are some intense games that get dicey but in my opinion it is up to the refs and coaches to control those situations.

If there are questionable situations then it's as much up to them, the adults in control, as the player that is learning, to fix it and help them learn from it for going forward.

East Bernstadt has a good 9th grade team. I've seen them destroy Corbin, and Whitley as well as a few others I've heard about. They also played beechwood and meece tough.

Corbin has their top two kids just playing freshman and jv. They are below avg. Whitley is below avg at best. Believe what you want but east bernstadt is an avg 8th grade team at best. They are probably best team east bernstadt has had in several years though.

I agree in premise with the comments of Truthwilliams. There have been three games in particular where the fans/players have not exhibited the exemplary behavior. The game versus St Pius, Camp Ernest, and the most recent at the Dayton tourney versus Summit View. All extremely competitive games featuring talented teams.

 

I also agree with BCHS-Bluebird that this is NOT the entire Highlands Middle School team and it is NOT all HHS athletes, and it is NOT all HHS parents. Categorizing a team or a group is never a fair evaluation.

 

I will add that in addition to Clyde's 2 people on the floor that can control such activity, there is one on the bench that can do it also. There is one that leads the program at the high school level that can do the same.

 

There are so many posters out there waiting to pounce on a negative HHS thread and pile on when things go bad. It has happened in the high school basketball threads for a few years, it was evident during the baseball incident, people relished in the bad start by the football team, and now its the HMS parents and players turn.

 

The taunting and screaming and gesturing needs to stop. Let's hope that these posts are being read by those that can make it stop. What also needs to stop is the constant HHS/HMS bashing. The "most" this and "worst" that - please, give me a break.

8th Ockerman beat CE in there first game, was a great game. Then beat Beechwood in there 2nd game, all players were present to my knowledge for all squads on those days. Since a rough start at 0-2 after Highlands and Beechwood losses, Ockerman has put together a nice run despite a coach that is just there? wins against SV, Conner, CE, and Beechwood with a one point loss to CE in there. Keep grinding Hawks, just wanted to give a shout out.

CE was missing two players when ockerman beat them in the Christmas tournament. It was a great game though
