Wait...So are you saying they have a 6'3 big with size and don't play him? Do they have any other bigs that play over him? Why would you not play him and let him bang around down low. We played them early on but I was out of town so I missed the game. Like NKy said. He plays a ton. But, he's not going to be as effective at the high post. Those quicker players (you mentioned) would have an advantage on him. But on the low block with good court spacing he's going to make it tough. If he gets his leverage and weight on those same guys he will draw many fouls. Which can change that game dramatically. But what does well is gives the ball back. Williams and Armour will fill it up if they can catch and shoot and not have to move their feet. (Inside out passing)

I agree in premise with the comments of Truthwilliams. There have been three games in particular where the fans/players have not exhibited the exemplary behavior. The game versus St Pius, Camp Ernest, and the most recent at the Dayton tourney versus Summit View. All extremely competitive games featuring talented teams.

 

I also agree with BCHS-Bluebird that this is NOT the entire Highlands Middle School team and it is NOT all HHS athletes, and it is NOT all HHS parents. Categorizing a team or a group is never a fair evaluation.

 

I will add that in addition to Clyde's 2 people on the floor that can control such activity, there is one on the bench that can do it also. There is one that leads the program at the high school level that can do the same.

 

There are so many posters out there waiting to pounce on a negative HHS thread and pile on when things go bad. It has happened in the high school basketball threads for a few years, it was evident during the baseball incident, people relished in the bad start by the football team, and now its the HMS parents and players turn.

 

The taunting and screaming and gesturing needs to stop. Let's hope that these posts are being read by those that can make it stop. What also needs to stop is the constant HHS/HMS bashing. The "most" this and "worst" that - please, give me a break.

 

I agree to a point about the 2 on the court that can stop it but the issue should be corrected at home before it even gets to a coach or official. I have found that if you have a kid acting that way the parents aren't doing a lot to correct it. Maybe those kids that are acting like that belong to the parents in the crowd doing the same thing. it's about teaching a kid the right way to compete and it starts at home plan and simple. To many parents today depend on and expect other people to teach their kids how to behave. I guess it's this generation of parents and kids. if did that stuff when i played my father would take care of it and set me straight or i wouldn't be playing no matter how good i was.

Looks like Highlands 8th grade plays Bracken Cty in the Dayton Tourney tonight. I haven't seen them play. Anyone know anything about them this year?

I didn't mean to come across like i was judging these particular parents or kids but in general. See i think part of the problem today is kids are treated like babies most of their younger lives and parents are afraid of hurting their feelings as they get older so they don't put their foot down when needed. I was taught different from my parents and I turned out fine so I will do the same to my kids and teach them to respect everyone. Sorry got off the original topic of thread. I'm off my box now.

I just don't get the parents that continue to yell at their child while he's playing. I was at a game last night where the kid kept having to tell his dad to shut up. Didn't work. Dad moved down closer to the floor so he could yell more. Sad.

I think #21 is Gage Ashcraft. I hope so at least. He's a great kid that works as hard as anyone. I don't know for sure what his AAU plan is. Last year he played for the Ky Royals and Fighting Ducks during the spring season.

 

I had a game this year where Gage played. Really solid player with a very nice offensive game. Nice pull up. Nice use of the dribble to get a shot.

 

Plus he seems like a good kid from the interactions I had with him.

They do play him. His reference was that he plays too much in the high post.

 

When SVA played Ockerman at Ockerman, he was more of just a rebound-stick back guy. They did try to penetrate the middle and have him duck in behind the defense for the dump off a few times, and it worked.

 

I'm sure he's progressed since then. He was a scrappy, strong kid. Thick and competitive.

Summit Viee beat Sharp by 30 something, plays Dayton at 5:30 tomorrow and winner plays Bracken Co at 8:00

I haven't been able to see any of the small schools yet. We played Summit View(won by 7) in our first game and then played Bracken(won big) yesterday. Bracken played hard. They only had 7 kids, I think it's hard to run and gun without a little more depth. It looks like we'll play Summit View again in the finals.

Great game last night between Beechwood and CE. Beechwood won by by 3. But it was a great battle

I video a lot of games, and have had the occasion to be in the middle of the Highlands parents section, and if anyone has any doubt about the behavior of the parents especially, I can easily provide you with proof, as their comments are heard throughout the video. Yelling at refs, making comments to opposing players, encouraging bad behavior on the court by their players, it is amazing to me that adults act this way, and it is no wonder the kids mirror that conduct. I sent a copy of one of the videos to the principal last year, which included a Highlands player punching a SV player and the ensuing encouragement from some parents. Sad, really.
