That is just silly. But when you have Jefferson I guess I see why playing in all of the tournaments. Hope the Beechies will be able to handle it when he enrolls at NCC next season.

I've seen CE 6th and heard about Ockerman's 6th. Sounds like nice battles for the next couple of years.

Silly? Maybe, but when you enter tournaments you don't get to choose the schedule. You kinda play when you are scheduled. When you play 3 7th graders in your top 8 on the 8th grade team, and you win games by 30+ppg, it's time to look for additional competition. As we have said, we will play anyone that wants to schedule us. From a coaching perspective, we get it. Let us get our kids ready for the next level doing it our way.

 

I also love the "authorities" on Caleb that don't personally know him or his family. For the Bluebird crowd, I'd be more concerned that a long standing Bluebird family might venture to a Kenton Co HS if the kid gets his way. And there's a chance that a current NCC lean might also look to Kenton Co for HS as well. It's early, kids still have 6 months to decide. Lots of aau basketball to play, and those friendships that seem to be trumping school friendships.

Jefferson has played minimal minutes in MOST of these games this season, with the addition of three 7th graders to a very good Beechwood 8th grade team and now you have upgraded. Seems more of a great coaching move to me, with or without Jefferson. If you have seen any games that is a very good team.

League game, beats Ludlow 55 - 7

Turkeyfoot tourney, beats Conner 44 - 19

then heads to KBA in Lexington and beats Tates Creek 54 - 22, and finishes the night beating a very good team from North Bernstatdt (London, ky area), 49 - 46 in OT.

Boy isn't that refreshing airing personal information about kids on here. Oh and discussing AAU basketball as being more important than where a kid goes to school. Last I checked Highlands is top in the state in academics. As far as Jefferson I heard it from his mouth first week of school year. Now kids and families can change their mind that's fine but that is why I posted what I did about him.

I know this has been said a few times on here. Is this the reason why he was not moved up to freshman, jv or varsity. I've heard he can play and contribute at those levels.

No clue I really could care less where he goes. I can appreciate good basketball players and AAU teams bit when I hear about kids leaving schools to play with other AAU teammates it makes me sick.

I understand your stance, but we don't knock kids/parents for wanting to go to a better school for academics.... why would we do it for sports? Its based on priorities. People have different priorities.

Well my stance is academics are more important than athletics, to each their own.

You could care less but you are quoting a 14 year old kid using that info to try and justify your opinions. Jefferson went to Beechwood for many reasons academics, friends and good coaches. Unless you personally know his family and talk to his parents about his future, you are the one being "silly".

I think most of the boys basketball coaches in northern Kentucky would like to see Jefferson coming to their school. Let's let him and his family decide what the best fit is for him. I would expect that they would have a long list of considerations, like the fit for him academically and athletically, financial, and probably a long list of other considerations. I don't know all of the family's circumstances, but it is probably far from a simple "which school is better in basketball" or "where are my AAU teammates playing". Everyone should accept that parents can decide where to send their kids, and leave it at that. Agreeing or disagreeing with their decision isn't even appropriate IMO because no one from the outside can know what went into their decision. As Q said, to each their own.

And even if Jefferson did play varsity this year, as an 8th grader he would still not be limited as far as next year. He can transfer without a change of address and still be eligible.
