  1. Why baffling? Boone has been playing great lately. And their record is NOWHERE near an indicator of who they are. They have been shut down with Covid issues twice this year and went 2 weeks and 3 weeks between games. Games they lost to Campbell, Beechwood, and Scott were all 4 point games in the 2nd half earlier in the season.
  2. 33rd District semifinals - Conner 70, Boone County 56. Great game by both teams!!! Boone was within 2 at the start of the 4th quarter but Conner pulled away in the final 5 minutes. Great game by Jalen Scott with 27 points. Parker Fields led Boone with 25 point and 15 boards. Good luck to Conner in the finals!
  3. Unfortunately whoever told you this information was completely wrong. No one had to forfeit any game. All games were played. The reason for the schedule ending up the way it was so everyone could be accommodated. The 7th girls had to go first because a coach had a family conflict. The 6th girls had to go second because of a scheduling issue. The 8th boys had to be moved to Monday because one of the schools was in the state tournament. Everyone was accommodated. Ockerman is not in charge of the schedule - we hosted the event.
  4. Highlands continues to roll. Luke Muller led the Bluebirds with 23, followed by Bryson Cody with 19. Zach Barth added 12 on 4 3-pointers that didn’t touch anything but net. Sam Vinson had 10 with two impressive dunks in traffic. Parker Fields led Boone County with 17 points, followed by Tate Hermann with 9 points. I’m not really sure why everyone is so shocked with how well Highlands is playing or their record. This group of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen have been good for a long time. If you’re familiar with NKY Basketball then you know how well these young men played together growing up. Luke Muller is as good a shooter as we’ve seen in the last few years in NKY, and now he’s 6’6” making him even tougher to guard. Sam Vinson is having an incredible year, and he has gotten himself to the point where he is playing at a different level than most others. Zach Barth shoots the lights out coming off the bench. Add in a couple of really good seniors and others who know their roles and you have an exceptional basketball team. This doesn’t surprise me at all how well they are playing, and I’m happy for them for their success.
  5. Boone County 64, Henry County 62 - first round of the Henry County Invitational. Parker Fields hits a layup with 1.8 seconds left to put Boone up. The Rebels came back from 15 down in the 3rd quarter. Preston Malone comes back from an injury and scores 17 to lead Boone, followed by Cole Shumate with 13 (double digits the last three games) and Parker Fields with 11. Dakota Finn hit two big three pointers to spark the comeback. The Rebels take on Bishop Brossart tonight at 8:30 at Henry County in round 2.
  6. I can only speak for Boone, but they will be much improved over last year. More size, better shooting all around and more ball handlers in the lineup, plus the new coach has them pushing the ball down the floor. This group took their lumps last year but gained a lot of varsity experience. Tate Hermann at center is legit 6’6”, with Leon Cleary at 6’4” adding to the front line. Parker Fields has grown a couple of inches this summer and stands 6’3”. Dakota Finn and Cole Shumate at the guard spots will give us ballhandling at both places. Preston Malone is a quick scorer, along with senior Adam Hicks who was the JV leading scorer last year. They’ll be a lot more competitive than last year and will surprise some people.
  7. These are all players to watch and all of them could explode and move up in people’s conversations: Wyatt Vieth - St. Henry Sam Vinson - Highlands Parker Fields - Boone County Luke Muller - Highlands Luke Dawalt - Grant County Grant Proffitt- Scott Brandon McClendon - Holy Cross Jeremiah Hicks - Holy Cross Jacob Meyer - Holy Cross Scott Draud - Beechwood Will Downton - Beechwood Kevin Centers - Cooper De’shawn White - Newport Evan Mullikin - NCC Ross Pangallo - NCC Cole Shumate - Boone County Donovan Robinson - Ryle Tyler Bush - Ryle Jalen Scott - Conner Grant Dicken - CovCath Gavin Rabe - Cooper Jude Bessler - St. Henry Trayshawn Cody - Lloyd Colin McHale - CovCath Kelly Niece - Simon Kenton Donovan Stocks - CovCath Jordan Gross - Campbell County Dane Hegyi - Campbell County This is just a partial list of players to watch
  8. Parker Fields, junior from Boone County. He had a great sophomore year for Boone last year and a great summer for his AAU team and for Boone. He’ll be the number one option this year and he should have a great year.
  9. Dixie won their district and drew Conner, so that maybe a little tougher...
  10. I believe a lot of players from NKY over the years, if given the opportunity to be in a program like WVU and get to travel all over the country and be in the NCAA tournament every year and all of the perks that go with being in the program, would take that opportunity. If someone wants to go into coaching also this is a great way to get your foot in the door and get your career started while being a part of the program. Not everything is about playing time.
  11. Boone County played really well last night. They shot well and played really well on the defensive end. Senior Parker Kyle had 28 points. Sophomore Parker Fields had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Senior RJ Summers added 13 points off the bench.
  12. Boone had a couple of good wins over Christmas break. They are looking better, getting better shots and more aggressive on offense. They just don’t have size and it hurts on 2nd chance points.
  13. It was a good boys district game between Boone County High School and Ryle High School. Ryle wins in Overtime by a score of 68-63. Senior Vince Rankin led Ryle with 25 points and Junior Zach Benton added 22 points. Sophomore Parker Fields led Boone County with 20 points while Senior Parker Kyle added 16 points. Was a back and forth game for a lot of the night. Benton and Rankin were huge in overtime.
  14. Yep they’re getting better. And Boone was missing senior Parker Kyle, three year starter. The final score was not indicative of the game. Game was 4 points at halftime and it was a 10 point game in the 4th quarter. Tate Hermann, Parker Fields, Julian Velasquez, Cole Shumate played well for Boone. For Newport, Donnie Miller is such a tough player. Love watching him play. He’s so smooth, but he’s a strong finisher around the hoop and as always he played great defense. Taj Harding is so strong inside, he and Sisson for Highlands will be a great matchup.
  15. Draud played fantastic last night, showed a good all around game. Will Downton had a great game off the bench for them. Beechwood is going to be very tough for most teams, they have great length plus they are very athletic. Could be a special season for Beechwood! Boone County will get better and better as the season goes. 3 new varsity starters and 3 new varsity players off the bench - with experience they will gel. Have to give a shoutout to my boy Parker Fields, sophomore for Boone in his first varsity start. 13 points, 9 boards, and 5 assists. Parker Kyle led Boone with 14 points, and Tate Hermann added 11 points.
  16. Boone County lost four senior starters in Raymond Rogers, Zach Gott, Ethan Haynes and Ethan Robbins. All four had great senior seasons and were great leaders. Parker Kyle and Julian Velazquez are both returning, as they were the starter and sixth man respectively. Both should have great senior seasons, Kyle playing the swing man role and Velasquez is non-stop hustle. Sophomore Parker Fields and Freshman Cole Shumate should step up and contribute heavily for Boone this season. Both played freshman, JV, and Varsity last season, with Fields being the leading scorer on the freshman and JV teams. Dakota Finn will be a great leader at the point for Boone this season, along with Senior Brandon Williams. Tate Hermann is a rapidly improving big man who should help immensely on the defensive end. Senior RJ Summers had a great summer and worked hard on his game, the football tight end will be a force in the paint for Boone. Adam Hicks had a good sophomore season last year and will look to continue the great summer he had. This team will be young but it’s a tight knit group who will gel pretty quickly. Look for them to progress as the season gets into high gear.
  17. Final on Tuesday night in Florence. Cooper traveled to Boone County to take on the number one ranked Rebels. BC pitcher Olivia Jackson pitched an exceptional game for Boone County, as well as hitting the cover off the ball against us. Jackson not only is an exceptional pitcher, she is an exceptional young lady. VERY humble and just a really good kid, easy to root for when she’s not playing against us! lol. Shelby Wright was great at shortstop as always, and Morgan Daniels and Karys Black are great freshman talents for Boone. Dylan Scott continued to hit for Cooper, collecting multiple hits again. 8th grade pitcher Amber Chaney pitched a strong game for Cooper, a few key errors contributed to one big inning for Boone.
  18. Final from Wednesday night in Erlanger. 8th grade pitcher Amber Chaney throws a 3 inning no-hitter for the shutout. Senior Taylor Keener reached base 4 times, going 3-3 plus a walk. Junior 3rd baseman Allana Matteson went 3-4, including her first homer of the season, and drove in 3 runs. Dylan Scott, Alex Dummitt, and Leah Moore all contributed multiple hits in the win.
  19. Final from Union. The Cooper Jaguars won their 2nd game of the season. 8th grade pitcher Amber Chaney pitched 4 innings, allowing 0 earned runs and striking out 6 for the win. 8th grade shortstop Dylan Scott continued her torrid hitting, going 4-4 again and hitting her first career varsity HR! Chaney also went 4-4 at the plate. Senior 1st baseman Clhoe Kincart and 8th grade catcher Gweny Wessling each collected multiple hits also.
  20. NKSCA President Chris Burkart has been very vocal about coaches joining the state association for years. He has asked our coaches to get involved and vote.
  21. @theguru the problem is we don’t have enough people voting from NKY in these polls. We don’t have the same numbers as the other areas do in regards to votes. We need more coaches and assistants to join the coaches association. Until we do we won’t have teams high in these polls not will we have players ranked high.
  22. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I’m a high school softball coach, and if another coach deliberately votes against another program’s player for hatred, jealousy, trying to get their own player on the list or for awards, etc. then they shouldn’t be coaching to begin with! That is completely unethical and not part of our coaching ethics. Coaches, GOOD COACHES, give credit where credit is due and recognize other talented players, not just their own. Coaching high school sports is about the kids, NOT jealousies, rivalries, hatred, etc. This has always been a pet peeve of mine.
  23. Thanks to NewCath assistant coach and NKSCA President Chris Burkart, the Northern Kentucky Softball Coaches Association will be having a preview show LIVE STREAMED on PrepSpin on Sunday March 25th starting at 12:45 from the Newport Catholic Media and Technology Center. Big thanks to William Warfield and @PrepSpin for this wonderful opportunity to promote our NKY softball teams and players. I will update the times each head coach is scheduled to appear.
