  1. Per the KHSAA site next game for Pendleton is on the road. Today was at Pendleton, so I’m pretty sure they were trying to get it in front of the home crowd.
  2. In the current setup, Ockerman sends kids to Boone, Cooper and Ryle. RA Jones sends kids to Boone but also sends some to Ryle.
  3. What does that have to do with Boone? You were talking about Boone losing to those three teams.
  4. Those 3 losses for Boone came in the first 4 games of the season. They also played two of those games with out a starter, Parker Kyle, who is the secondary ball handler and a top defensive player for the Rebels. He only played 5 minutes in the game against Newport also. This is not the same team as the one back in the December.
  5. I can’t believe some of the stuff that gets posted. Roddy is a competitor, plain and simple. He does argue calls, but some of these posts question who he is. LOTS of coaches, including all of the ones we put on pedestals, argue calls. These are totally inaccurate posts about him. Those who have posted on here I will bet have never met him or spoken with him at length. Roddy is a good man, he loves coaching and he is great to the kids. Ask the Softball players he coached over the years at Dixie. Ask all of us in the coaching association what we think and we’ll all tell you he is a great man who cares about his program and players. We liked coaching against him, because he cared about his program but he also showed great respect and admiration to his opponents. Not a big fan of slamming a good person, good coach!
  6. The 33rd district teams all play each other twice, Home and away.
  7. May not be exactly fair to say that. CovCath JV and Varsity make lots of teams look bad. Ryle has struggled with injuries and youth, but they do have players coming up. Give them time. Rankin has been hurt and is hurt again. He makes a big difference in their rotation. Benton at 6’8” is only a sophomore and will continue to get stronger and improve greatly. Sophomore Gage Ashcraft, freshmen Tyler Bush and Gavin Rabe, and 8th grader Donovan Robinson are all going to be players for them in the future. The cupboard is far from bare. And I’m not a Ryle parent so that’s coming from an outsider lol
  8. Cooper High School 2018 Fastpitch Softball Preview Returning Starters: Allana Matteson – Junior – 3B / 1B (Honorable Mention All Conference - Division 1 - 3 times) Alex Dummitt – Senior – P / IF / OF (Honorable Mention All Conference - Division 1 - 3 times) Taylor Keener – Senior – OF (2016 33rd District All-Tournament Team) Leah Moore – Junior – OF Amber Chaney – 8th Grade – P / IF (2017 Honorable Mention All Conference - Division 1) Dylan Scott – 8th Grade – SS (2017 Honorable Mention All Conference - Division 1) Key Returnees: Gweny Wessling – 8th Grade – C / IF Clhoe Kincart – Senior – IF / OF / C Anna Ryder – Senior – OF / IF Elena Studer – Freshman – OF Alison Schlieger – Sophomore – IF / OF / C Brooke Van Dusen – Freshman – P / 1B Erin Hubbard – Sophomore – 3B / 1B Ariselys Roman – Junior – OF / C Hanna Hollis – 8th Grade – P / 1B Brianna Keener – Sophomore – OF / 1B / P Key Newcomers: Ashley Chaney – 7th Grade – IF / C Emily Schmeltz – 7th Grade – IF / OF Claire Poage – 7th Grade – OF Coming off a season in 2017 which saw the Cooper Jaguars set new school records for most wins in a season (16) and most runs scored in a season (251), we are extremely excited for the season to start. In each of the last 3 seasons we have set new school records in wins, so we are progressing as a program in the right direction. The 2018 roster, which features 6 returning starters, 9 key returnees, and 3 impressive newcomers, gives the Cooper Jaguars’ faithful reason to be excited. Speed and defense will be the keys this season, we’ve really gotten a lot faster and a lot more experienced than we were. We feel like we are going to surprise some people this year with the lineups we are able to put onto the field. Returning starters Allana Matteson (5 year starter) and Alex Dummitt (6 year starter) are the offensive leaders for the Jaguars, along with 8th grade shortstop Dylan Scott, last year’s RBI leader. All three of them will be the heart of our order. Taylor Keener and her speed is a big asset to our outfield as well, as well as her leadership. We are very deep with pitching this year, led by senior Alex Dummitt and 8th grader Amber Chaney (Chaney will also be our leadoff hitter entering the season). These two are different types of pitchers, which will allow us to change things up as we need to. Hanna Hollis, Brooke Van Dusen, and Brianna Keener are also part of our pitching depth. Catching is also an area of depth, where Gweny Wessling, Alison Schlieger, and Ariselys Roman provide us with different looks behind the plate. Wessling and Schlieger also provide us with pop, with both of them having exceptional gap power. Leah Moore and Elena Studer will help to anchor our outfield defense on the corners – both are very fast with great gloves. Clhoe Kincart, Anna Ryder, and Erin Hubbard will be key players for us this year, with Kincart, a senior, being the 1st baseman heading into the season. The three new 7th graders – Ashley Chaney, Emily Schmeltz, and Claire Poage – will provide us with depth with their speed, defensive abilities, and their offensive games. We are ready for the 2018 season to begin!
  9. Big fans of both! I wanted to make sure they were on the list, glad they’re playing a lot
  10. Just in NKY there is a lot of talent in the freshman class. These are the ones I know about who are starting, making contributions, or playing / dressing varsity basketball this year: Simon Kenton - Kelly Niece Beechwood - Scotty Draud St. Henry - Wyatt Vieth, Jude Bessler Boone County - Parker Fields Ryle - Tyler Bush, Gavin Rabe Conner - Riley Osterbur, Cole Skiles, Gabe Workman Scott - Grant Proffitt Highlands - Sam Vinson I am probably missing a few, sorry if so. Also, 8th grader Donovan Robinson for Ryle has been starting for them and 8th grader Cole Shumate scored his first varsity points this week. As I said, there is a lot of talent coming up from this freshman class as well as the current 8th graders. There are a lot of freshman who aren’t playing varsity due to various reasons - roster size, upperclassmen, talented teams, etc. They should be included on these lists as well: CovCath - Reese Murphy, Joseph Eubanks Conner - Ethan Ginn, Spencer Couzins Highlands - Luke Muller, Zac Barth (8th grader), Cam Hergott Beechwood - Will Rolf, Will Downton St. Henry - Tyler Kaiser
  11. Regardless of who you were rooting for, EVERYONE there was able to witness one of the best shooting halves in a long time - Raymond Rogers was absolutely feeling it hitting 7 straight threes. He was putting on a show!
  12. @MidwestUnited, great job on the rankings! Litkenhaus ratings for the Ninth Region, looks a lot like what you had. Nice job! NINTH REGION Covington Catholic,106.7 Cooper, 103.3 Boone County, 82.0 Newport Catholic, 82.0 Newport, 80.5 Dixie Heights, 78.3 Covington Holy Cross, 77.4 Holmes, 75.2 Beechwood, 74.3 Highlands, 69.1 Conner, 66.9 St. Henry, 66.2 Ryle, 64.3 Erlanger Lloyd, 55.7 Bellevue, 50.0 Villa Madonna, 46.1 Ludlow, 37.9 Dayton, 27.9 Heritage Academy, 8.3 Covington Latin, 1.3
  13. First Boone did not get blown out by West Jessamine. Final score was 90-79, with of course free throws at the end. Boone was up at half and within 6 in the final minutes. Not exactly a blow out. And the two teams Boone beat, the below average teams as you said, they destroyed each of them, not close games at all. They did what they were supposed to in those two games. NewCath is a VERY tough team, of course it hurts when their full team is not there. But in the Boone NewCath game don’t forget Raymond Rogers, Boone’s top scorer, hurt his knee in the game and sat most of the 2nd half, plus 6th man Parker Kyle barely played in his comeback from injury. So not all circumstances are great for any team. Give some credit to Boone for being a greatly improved team from the previous season. I appreciate your support of NewCath, they’ve got a great program and great coaching.
  14. The three of them each averaged over 20 points per game in the 3 games in the Henry County Christmas tournament. Boone has already equaled last years win total, greatly improved team!
  15. Not sure about offers yet but I know he has a lot of schools talking with him.
  16. I wanted to give a shout out to these 3 seniors for Boone County. I’ve been able to watch them play for awhile now, especially this year since I have my son playing for Boone. I have gotten to watch them day in and day out. These 3 are playing extremely well and each is having a great senior season. Boone is greatly improved, and all of them have been consistent scorers for the team. Not many teams can boast three players who have each scored 30 or more points in a game this season. Ethan Haynes is a tremendous athlete, but because he’s such a good athlete it’s easy for people to overlook the fact that he is extremely fundamentally sound as a player, and he has become a deadly marksmen from long range. Raymond Rogers is a terrific point guard, one who never gets tired and has an extremely high motor, and a guard who has tremendous handles. Rogers also has one of the best, and quickest, 3 point shots in the region. Ethan Robbins has really come on as a scorer for Boone, and the big senior center has shown everyone how well he can score inside as well as from long range. His 40 point game the other night in the Henry County holiday tournament was a beauty to watch. ALL 3 of these young men are hard workers, they put the time in on their games and they’ve been tremendous leaders for Boone. Best of all is the fact that all 3 of them are upstanding people - you won’t find more respectful, considerate, humble young men than these 3. I know Haynes is getting looks from Division I programs, and his best basketball is still ahead of him, sky is the limit for him. Rogers and Robbins could be STEALS for several programs in the area. Would love to see these two also get the opportunity to play at the next level.
  17. Brenden Ginn for Conner is without a doubt one of the most improved players in the 9th Region. He’s been scoring at a high level for them over the last several games, and in the games I’ve seen he has really improved on attacking the basket. Love to see hard work pay off for a great young man!
  18. For Boone, freshman Parker Fields and 8th grader Cole Shumate will be playing up. They’ve played together for years and play very well together.
  19. Good to hear! Great group of young men there, I had the pleasure to coach them when they were younger. They will develop well together, they’ve been successful all the way up! Good luck to this great group!
  20. Freshman Kayari Suganuma broke her own Cooper high school single-season stolen base record with her 43rd, 44th, and 45th steals this evening against St. Henry. Last year she set the record with 42 steals. Currently Kayari is leading the state in stolen bases, as well as hitting almost .600.
  21. Congrats to senior outfielder Hailey Nicholas (Cooper High School) for committing to the University of Pikeville yesterday! We are very proud of her at Cooper! She is having a fantastic senior year, hitting over .440 with 2 homers on the year, along with having a Quality-At-Bat percentage of 81%. Congrats again Hailey!
