Cooper 37 Highlands 13

Featured Replies

Best kept secret in NKY . Shout to Hendrix!

I let that cat out of the bag this offseason in here when people asked what Cooper had coming back and even hinted to it in the top 50 players in the state thread when I said next year there should be a certain Cooper Wr on the list.

Yes' date=' but as the sidinw reporter stated the Cooper QB was the better QB that night. Nothing taken away from Drew so please don't read it that way. I was pointing out that even DI QB's can be topped by non scholarship qb's at times. It happens.[/quote']

Didn't read it that way at all, but not a good comparison imo. Cooper knew Drew better than most teams, yet he only lost to them one time his soph year after leaving the game early with an injury.

Great game last night. Congrats to the Jags. HHS players looked small to me. Cooper just flat outplayed them.

I haven't paid attention to Cooper in the past so I don't know how to compare them. They seem to be a very good team.

The defense for Highlands last year wasn't great and hasn't seemed to improve. However, the offense seems to be significantly worse. 1 offensive TD?

My brother DVR this one for me All I can say now is congrats on what looks to a great win.

Who televised this game last night, and do you know if they'll be showing it again?

Not as surprised as most. I said last week this could easily happen. I've watched the highlands freshman and JV for years.... They have been average at best the last few years. When I mentioned this last week people jumped all over the idea stating that those records never matter and highlands produces state champions anyway. But the freshman and JV teams of those state champion teams 4+ years ago were good, I watched them too. The past few years not so much. This years Cooper senior class has done really well over the past few years. IMHO I just don't think Highlands has the same type of tools to work with...and I think next year will be worse.

No negative towards Cooper though - they have a great senior class and will have a great season.

And Hendrix was not "woofing" at all correct? Just want to make sure I understand because I know who the two kids were that you are referring to and I seemed to have heard at least one of their names all night long and the other was an "impact" player.

Impact player? What does that have to do with anything. We had this discussion about how HHS acted when they lost the 7 on 7 at Ryle to LexCath. You tried to put your spin on it then. Here they are being accused of it again! That's twice joat. Stop defending it and fix it. Accepting it and excusing it is as bad as the behavior itself.

What I've said about Cooper before the game holds true after the game. Here it is.

Cooper returned most their starters from a semi final team last year.

Their big question mark was their QB who was new this year. They returned the leading rusher in NKY last year, who had more yards even than England for Ryle and Powell for SK. They also return the best hands I've seen in NKY last year in D Hendrix. How did those 2 do last night against HHS? Well Armstrong rushed for 184 yards and 3 TD's and Hendrix opened the Jaguar offense with a 82 yard TD catch and also had 2 Int's in D.

Coopers defense is is the strongest part of the team only allowing 17 points a game last year. They return one of the best D linemen in the area in Marcus Watson who had a pretty decent night last night against one of HHS' best linemen in Bo Hebel. Their defense also had 4ints in the game.

So the preseason rundown on Cooper held pretty much true. They will add another solid team to the NKY 6A mix this year.

He said time warner sports channel did. They usually replay the games they show.

Congrats to Cooper, they outplayed the Birds and deserved the win. No excuses. We have some work to do and have faith Coach W will get the team prepared. Good luck to Cooper the rest of the year.

One thing that keeps running through my head is this.... But before I say it, let it be clear that I have the utmost respect for HHS and their program and what they've done. I also truly enjoy many of their fans in here and like to think of many as close BGP friends. So this in no way is a shot at HHS at all. But this is what keeps running through my head....

The words that kept being told to Cooper fans in 2012 was if they would have played HHS that year that would of prepared them to win state that year. And also "Highlands is #1 in NKY until someone knocks them off" "NKY teams are afraid of HHS"

Well I'm pretty dang proud of my Jaguars this morning and after only 7 years and 2 regional championships they should no longer be under the radar like they have been every single year.

Also let it be known that Cooper is the only NKY team with a winning record against Highlands lol. I can enjoy that for at least another year. :)

I I wonder how many teams in KY have a winning record against HHS?

Does Cooper have pretty much all players back from last year? Any impact players that may be FR, transferred in, or were possibly injured last yr?

Hicks (S), Smith (DL) were both injured all year last year and are back, they are play makers.

Meyers and Schlarman are Sophomores this year who are starting and have really stepped up. Other than that, everyone else started last year and have gotten a year older and better.

Shocked to say the least

Watching the game now. Highlands doesn't look as good as years past. Cooper plays several kids both ways. Cordell-Armstrong looks like the fastest kid on the field.

Manhandled? Were you there, no you were listening in Danville. Score should have been 20 to 10 at half, but greed enters the picture and you get an empty bag of nothing. Start off second half with a 3 and out and then once again you cannot move the ball on offense. Two late scores made the final lopsided when going for it on 4 and eternity from inside your own 30 and then throwing a pick on the very first play of the next possession.

Look, I understand that you are going to be very defensive of your team and manhandled is a pretty strong word, but this was not as close as you try to make it out to be. A terrible punt/coverage kept Highlands in this game. Defensively, Cooper did what they wanted with Highlands O. Manhandled may not be the right word, but for the first time in a long time Highlands got it taken to them.

Highlands will be ok, they may struggle a little bit but by playoffs they will have it figured out. Cooper played good D, forced turnovers and won by controlling the game from start to finish
