Holmes 56 Dixie Heights 55 (9th Region SemiFinal)

Yeah it was stolen on probably the exact play they wanted. I mean they could have taken a timeout like you wanted and they probably draw up the same play. Get the ball in his hands and isolate him and let him go one on one because it had worked all night. There was nothing wrong with the play and was a well coached game by both teams, a evenly officiated game with the refs being consistent on their calls especially consistently calling body fouls on drives to the basket. Sometimes you can have a good play call and the other team just happens to make a great play. It's one of those things where you just have to tip your hat to the guy and say great play.

It was a good game we just have different philosphy on how to close out a game but thats what makes sports great no one way to do things. Hope to see another good game tomorrow.

futurecoach ... I saw the Bolden you described tonight. He sure didn't force anything in this one. He was actually the opposite and did what you talked about in the other thread. He did step up and take some big shots.

I agree with those that say Dixie got exactly what they wanted on the last play. Holmes hadn't been able to stop the spread and drive all night till that last play. I am not a fan of the team with the ball calling timeout on last shot plays. You should have practiced last shot plays that you know you are going to call. When you call timeout, you give the defense an opportunity to discuss how to defend the play. If you are going to run a certain play that you feel the team is not familiar with, then call the timeout and set the offensive play. Otherwise, run your last shot play and don't give the defense a chance to set their strategy.

Dixie missing the front end of a 1-and-1 3 times down the stretch hurt them along with not being able to finish at the rim. IMO, Chevy did the right thing and spread the floor allowing Moore, Rabe, and Schreck to attack the basket. It gave them the opportunity to win the game.

At the end, Chevy got the exact look he wanted. I may have gone with Moore, even though he struggled finishing at the rim. He just seemed to beat his defender a little easier. Granted, he should've been at the line with about 20 seconds to go when he received the hip check at the top of the key.

Bolden was really 4/5 from 3 when you take the end-of-the-half heave. The last one was DEEP.

Clutch shot by a senior with his team down 3 late in the game.

The refs did not call much out on the floor the whole game and let them play. They were consistent with it. Now any bodies touching inside they blew the whistle, but again were consistent. Officiating was fine, by that I mean consistent.

He just has such a smooth shot. He is the best high school player I have seen live in person at making contested jump shots. He won me over two years ago in the regional tournament. They beat NCC in the first round that year too, beat Cooper on a last second three by him from NBA range with a hand in his face and beat CovCath the next night. Then I seen him almost lead his team to a victory against the eventual state champs that year and going shot for shot with the guy who won Mr. Kentucky that year. So yes I am definitely a fan of his lol.

Consistent until that shot by McClendon with about a minute to go.

I just think that was an ill-advised shot. He was out of control. I was at that end and didn't look like much to me. He made up for it big time, though.

Agreed. No foul.

paNDA, They could make you sit on the roof and you would still shoot good stuff!!!

You can't keep a good photographer down.

Thanks!

No need for a timeout. Chev had exactly what he wanted. Schreck with the ball one-on-one with the other 4 spread out. Schreck had a lot of success penetrating tonight. Zero issues with Chevy's logic.

Why take a TO when you have what you want? You risk not getting the ball back to Schreck.

I agree 100% with you. I don't usually agree with Chevy logic but you hit the nail on the head with Schreck having the ball already, let him go.

The last three that he hit was nuts from my angle. Looked a few feet back with a defender right his face.

It's been a while since we have seen a kid who can just go up and get any ball thrown up near the rim like Avery can. Doesn't need to be perfect. Just get it up there.

Not sure if it was his mom or aunt I was sitting by but she is a big fan of the kid.

I must've been pretty close to you then, because she was a few rows in front of us.

One more to go Holmes.
