As I sorta stated above I would rather lose on a last second shot on a big stage in a big game then the way Dixie lost last night. Regardless of being the best player on the court or not I would take my chances of my defense stepping up with having the momentum after taking the lead with what would have been under .30 left in the game making bolden take a highly contested 3 to win it. Heck if I was the coach honestly I would have shut off the 3 point line and if you give up a 2 no problem your still playing having a shot at controlling your fait. Like i stated earlier Dixie was getting to the rim all night long so anything could have happened in ot if they would have got there.

 

I guarantee Dixie thought the worst case scenario on that final possession was they would go to OT. They had the ball in the hands of a very good ball handler who is a terrific player. It's the situation they wanted, it just didn't work out.

 

You say that Bolden would have to make a highly contested 3 to win it but here's my take on that: 1) Who says that it would be a highly contested 3 if they have 30 seconds to run their offense. 2) Bolden can make highly contested 3s with regularity like he did from NBA range earlier in the 4th.

 

And Dixie was getting to the rim all night long so why not get there with 3 seconds left on the clock and then that "highly contested 3" becomes a half court heave?

Great season for Dixie, not many people believed they were capable of success after losing Hatton. I would just like to say imagine the possibilities if it had not been the Brandon Hatton show for two years prior. Hatton was a special high school player, but if they had developed a team chemistry with him; there is no telling what they could have accomplished. Schreck is a great player that never got the credit he deserved. Also Bolin and Hedger seemed to develop since their freshman year. They grew every year as players. Hats off to those young men. Moreover, Rabe become a good high school player and it was great to see his handwork pay off.

 

I know we can play the "what if" scenario a lot of years, but imagine if Ethan Snapp had stayed at Dixie (he was going to Newport regardless with his dad, but still lives in the Kenton Co district) and been apart of that team the past few years.

Dixie got what they wanted that last possession and one of the best defenders in the region simply made a play. End of story. Anyone saying otherwise simply doesn't like Chevy and wants something to complain about because they're upset Dixie lost. I can almost guarantee Listerman, Ruthsatz, or Faust would have done the same thing if their team were in the same position in the region semi finals. They are going to try to hold for the last second shot and put the ball in the hands of their best player. I agree completely with Chevy not calling a timeout. Too many variables that could happen on a potential inbounds play and like others have said, there's no guarantee you are going to get that same opportunity with Holmes also having a chance to set up a defense to prevent what they think Dixie is going to do.

After thinking about it last night, I agree to not take the TO. BUT, Dixie had two timeouts left at that point. They called one when McClendon was fouled and called another on the free throw rebound.
