I know it's not one play that determines the outcome of a game but the missed INT by the UK player with about 2:30 left in the game gnaws at me. That more than likely would have won the game for UK. I mean, it wasn't like it was a ball that he had to dive to intercept or catch back over his head, nothing like that. It was a high floating ball that he was camped under waiting for as if it was a kickoff return. And he dropped it!

I guess that's the way it's always going to be for a UK football fan. I remember in the 1980's UK had a bowl game salted away after one of their big guys intercepted the ball, but then instead of falling down and keeping the ball secured, he attempted to run with it.....and fumbled it back to the opponents!

 

Every team makes boneheaded plays but it seems UK makes more than other's.

UK came out talking smack and crossed the 50 yard line. They were trying to act all hard. The worst thing that could have happened to UK was Reggie going down because that 3rd string QB wasn't scared.

Plus, our society craves things such as this and then moans and groans when it actually happens. I don't have a problem with the kids, I have a problem when adults misbehave and in my opinion nobody was really out of line in this case. Even the shove by Petrino was justified given the circumstances. I don't understand why he fells the need to deny it because he did what he felt was necessary. I would just own it.

That's true, but it's UK being hard that put Reggie out of the game. UK's defense had the ingredients for the upset, usually when you knock a teams starter out the back up shows why he's not the starter. Say what you want the pre-game posturing but it's undeniable it added to the atmosphere and increased the intensity that both teams played with. If that disturbed anyone (UK or UL fans) then maybe football's not your thing.

I can't believe the pre game stuff is getting this much hype. This is supposed to be rivalry. That's what happens in rivalrys.

Game Thoughts:

1 - UofL didn't commit to the run and paid for it by lengthening the game, keeping UK in it, failing to wear them down and, of course, 2 TDs and a turnover. Way too many plays out of shotgun formation AND empty backfield formations. (NOTE: once Bolin comes in, the read option is nullified, but you can still run the ball.)

2 - Special Teams - blocked punt provided a short field (UofL 33) to an offense that struggled to go on long drives; kneeling at the 4 yd. line to receive a KO is just not smart and that is coaching

3 - UofL defense good or UK offense bad? Probably both. Bottom line, if offense / special teams forces UK to drive 60 - 80 yds on each possession, UK scores around 20. I think UofL puts up more than 20 in just about any circumstances.

4 - Nice 3rd down catches by Quick in the 4th Qtr. Tons of talent. Starting to use it correctly.

5 - Poor job of coaching / communicating not to snap the ball quickly on the De La Cruz incompletion. WR has to communicate and Coach has to execute code word to run play (usually a dive play out of a basic formation) before it can be overturned.

6 - UofL really needed to convert TD after Sample interception. FG was a moral victory for US and kept them in the game.

7 - Boom Williams is really good. Needs to be used a ton. Will continue to get better.

I saw a quote from UL's Parker that stated the Cards talked smack to opponents before every game. So it must not be much of a big deal to the players.

Agree......and if smack is so common, it's probably lost its effectiveness in trying to unsettle your opponent. So why even bother?

As a UK fan, the only part of the day/game I had was at the end of the game. Petrino showed his true colors by running a play at the end of the game (trying to score obviously) instead of taking a knee and letting the clock run out. Total jerk move by him in my opinion.

If he was obviously trying to score, they would have thrown the ball... Not to mention, they had time for another play if they were REALLY trying to score.

I didn't have a problem with it simply based on the pre-game situation. It was a stupid move though because they could have fumbled.

UL still had a timeout. If they wanted to run up the score they would have used it.

Deuce, I have to agree with jahearme. Petrino ran that play to be a jerk, it's just who he is. If he's your coach you defend it, if he isn't you don't. And by "you" I don't mean you specifically just in general. Hal Mumme was the same way at UK and I liked it. I liked Demarcus Cousins because he played for UK, if he played for Louisville I would hate him.
