Was tonight a moral victory for Covington Catholic?

Don't believe in moral victories. Can't imagine the Cov. Cath. players feel like it was a moral Victory. :idunno:

Don't believe in moral victories.

Don't have to when you root for Highlands.

If a team can have a moral victory with fewer points on the scoreboard, can a team with more points on the scoreboard have a moral loss? Just waxing philosophically here. Cheating I suppose would qualify.

Ru, I believe there is nothing to see here. No one believes this was a moral victory for Cov. Cath. I don't think Cov. Cath. would ever have to hang on to a "moral victory". They are better than that.

CCH couldn't be much less successful against Highlands in recent memory.

Someone could verify this for me but I was told after the game that this was HHS's 13th consecutive win over CCH...

Correct. Last CCH wins were both in 2006.

Not sure about that , however I can tell you this senior group never lost to CCH on any level.

Moral Victory - NO!!!!!

Respectability - YES!!!!!!

If they left it all out on the field there's nothing else that they can do. The term moral victory sounds bad, but looking back knowing you gave it everything you have and made a heck of a game should be enough.

My take:

I'm not sure a program with five state titles in 27 years while playing in the same class as Highlands is looking for any moral victories.

That said, there are "good losses," and "bad wins," in every sport. Every game is a measuring stick of your team and how you played. Your team's actual score may not be on the board.

I'm not sure I'd qualify this as either for either team though. CovCath scored two late touchdowns to narrow the margin, but never had the ball with a chance to win. Highlands ended the game with the ball deep in CovCath territory, and had there been more time left would have almost assuredly scored again.

Could say more, but best not.

Moral victories do exist, but this was not one of them. Cov Cath bounced back from a horrid showing against Highlands, Beechwood and Ryle to finish runner-up in the region. Still a good finish for a team that was only good once (Dixie). There will be changes in Park Hills, but will it be total or partial? Lastly, the mafia have been present throughout the season. Do they still have the power to get what they want?

Moral victory? YES.

How can you say CovCath would not feel good about scaring Highlands like that? I say this as I am sitting here with my 1997 CovCath championship sweatshirt on (my son was on the next year's squad :) ). I love Highlands football too, mind you, but to give HHS such an incredible game after suffering huge losses to them (42-7) and Moeller (39-0) as well as a loss to their little brother, Beechwood...well...

Heck yeah, it was moral victory! WTG COLONELS!!! Fighting tough to the end is what it's all about.

Same story, different year, different players. Outcome the same. The upset is when CovCath beats Highlands period.

I am with you here FTTS. Q, what is a typical Birds team? I really want to hear the definition of this for sure.

Well, to be flippant, I would say a typical HHS team is a winning team :)
