The Scariest Movie You've Ever Seen

Featured Replies

Can be something recent; or something tame by today's standards but spooked the crap out of you when you were young.

Let's hear it!

I still can't sit through An American Werewolf in London. Saw it the first time while in college after a night of "partying" and it totally freaked me out. The scenes of the dead friend coming back and talking to the werewolf were the worst.

When I was a youngster "The House On Haunted Hill" with Vincent Price frightened me to no end. It airs Thursday night at 8:00 on TCM...:scared:

"Saw" freaked me out pretty good. A coworker had me watch it and it totally caught me off guard. I never did followup with all the sequels.

Open Water gets high marks for suspense.

For straight up fright, a few come to mind: Rosemary's Baby, Carrie, The Omen, The Exorcist, Audrey Rose.

Got a kick out of the "P2" movie. Kept me on edge.

When I was young:

Jaws

Poltergeist

Amityville

Older:

I don't watch many these days...just not my gig...but a few decent ones were

Blair Witch

The Conjuring

And as mentioned earlier Open Water

I gotta say, The Conjuring was the scariest I've seen as an adult. I vastly prefer the ones that rely on suspense rather than gore. Insidious was quite good as well.

Growing up, it was easily Halloween.

In the last ten years or so, The Conjuring is probably the scariest mainstream film I've seen.

There was this independent film a few years ago (not sure when it was released) called The Last Broadcast. It was presented in a Documentary form, but it wasn't really a Documentary. The ending freaked me out with a twist I did not see coming. I love scary movies, but don't often get scared by them. This one was scary--the ending at least.

The Exorcist

I haven't seen it again since it was released back in the early '70's when I was in college. But I clearly remember it was a very scary movie.

Zombie and "How many ways can you kill a teenager" movies do nothing for me, so you can pretty much throw all of them out as far as I'm concerned. They're not scary they're dumb.

Mental terror is much more frightening than gore. However, I did like the first Saw movie.

The Shining

Silence of the Lambs

The Exorcist

The Omen

The Birds - I remember as a kid it scared the crap out of me.

When i was a kid it was Phantasm. Something about the Tall Man always freaked me out.

Now as an adult it would have to be The Conjuring. Saw it in the theaters and i might have covered my eyes a couple time.

Jaws did a number on me as a kid. Still not real comfortable with being out in the ocean.

Beastmaster. Really random but those bat looking things that dissected the boy scared the crap out of me. They wind up coming to help in the end but man I had nightmares of that one for a long time.
