Exorcist was the only one that ever freaked me out.

Yep, that one scared the heck out of me too.

I was home alone one night as a kid and I watched The Amityville Horror. Bad decision.

 

There's always that one you watch too early. I saw Pet Sematary when I was WAY too young. Freaked me out something terrible.

After that the Exorcist, The Omen, House on Haunted Hill.

Phantasm. That stinkin' ball still wakes me up at night.

The "Thing" the original

For me it is "The Shining " !!

The other one that I just remembered is The Creature from the Black Lagoon. I'm not even sure if it was a real movie, or just a tv movie.

 

But it scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid.

"Have you checked the children?" OMG!

 

I watched that with my girlfriend in high school. I think after that last scene where the door opens i might have jumped in her arms. That movie messed with me big time!!

"It" freaked me out as a kid.

 

No other movie scared me much but I enjoyed paranormal activity.

Exorcist. Anyone remember the barf bags that were available at some theaters? My brother, under aged at the time, somehow got into the movie and it freaked him out terribly. To this day he won't watch that movie.

Se7en and Silence of the Lambs are excellent choices. Both scared the heck out of me at times, though neither is a "horror" flick. I'd throw The Sixth Sense in with these two.

 

Jaws scared me as a kid. Saw it as a kid just a few weeks before a family trip to the beach. Thanks for that, mom and dad. Still a good movie, I have no idea why I was so frightened though.

 

Salem's Lot was the single scariest movie I've ever seen, and it was made for TV. Freaked me out a lot.

 

Other horror films that I've enjoyed: Halloween (the original) and Halloween IV. The original Nightmare on Elm St., and the original Children of the Corn.

 

The first Scream movie was pretty scary. Campy, corny, and funny at times, made the suspense and actual horror part of the movie more scary to me. IMO a very well crafted horror flick.

I'll take a psychological thriller ANY DAY over a "horror" movie. One interesting show that fits the psychological portion of the equation is the Twilight Zone episode "Time Enough At Last" starring Burgess Meredith. Saw it for the first time when I was 8 or 9, and it still gives me a stomach ache every time I think of it.
