Not sure who will win it but the two "mountain" teams, Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark, have played well. Mason Blair (not Braxton) 2017, has been on fire in the pool play. Good looking sophomore-to-be.

Since when is there a High School State Tournament during the Summer? Also, considering that not even one fouth of the schools in the State participate in it can it really be considered a STATE Tournament?

Been going on for at least 6 or 7 years. It used to have a larger turnout but more recently schools have chosen not to participate for whatever reason.

It is considered a state tournament because everyone is invited. Kind of like the AAU State tourney.

At at the end of the day it is a KBA ran tournament allowing high school teams to see different competition.

What more can you tell us about either team or Mr. Blair?

I was really impressed with the Gullett kid at Johnson Central last season. Though it'd be impossible to do, I thought that if you took away the reputations of both Hall and Gullett and someone had never seen them or heard about Johnson Central, but just sat down to watch their first game, they'd have had the two mixed up if you asked them to pick out which was supposed to be the kid with all the press.

That's not a knock on Hall, just a compliment to Gullett's game. Kid could do a lot of things to help his team win.

JC another tough physical loss to PRP kinda like the one last year in the KOB. You can tell that JC feels like they get pushed around by PRP. JC had a really nice win over Dunbar in the qtrs. They might be a better team without Shane Hall

I think JC is a better team without Shane Hall. They don't depend on just pounding it in the post and open things up a little but more. They shot it well yesterday and played well in transistion.

On another note the main reason most teams don't participate in this tournament is because of the officiating. It's absolutely awful. It used to be a training for officials but now it's just whoever works for KBA reffing the games. Always a 2 man crew and most of these same officials are the ones who red the KBA men's league on Sunday nights. Regardless of winning or losing I've heard nothing but bad things about the officiating from coaches all weekend.

Don't be surprised when Dunbar makes a real run at the 11th next season.
