This Sr group is the one Baioni has been waiting for going on 4 yrs now and anything less than to win it all will be disappointing to say the least...

Your opinions are usually solid but stick to football. Baseball comes down to when a starter/reliever is in control of the game or where the game is a ace could be pitching versus a #3 guy, and an offense could just have a bad night.

 

I've been involved coaching first hand where we beat a team 4x in a year and lose in the regional final because of a bunt. See you in the fall.

That's hilarious. I will go out on a limb and say no way does HHS win 9th, let alone state. Way too difficult to predict baseball as many have said. A very mediocre Simon Kenton team caught fire, and parlayed a great bracket draw into a state runner up. That team would have been the 6th or 7th best team in the 9th, yet advanced. No way to predict.

Really like what I'm reading about HHS. That staff and those boys have worked awfully hard to raise the program up, glad to see them getting some attention.

The fact that people are talking and predicting Highlands to go to levels that haven't been seen in a very long time, one level never, shows you that Coach B and the players are doing something right. I like others can see the talent in place. Hey, if you all can't see your team that you support winning State, then sorry for you. I think Highlands can win State. There is something special brewing in Ft Thomas and it smells like a State Championship!

Good point, I guess I made a prediction to. Allow me to restate, I have no predictions.

This will be the year where the road block will be taken down at Freedom field and the Birds will get to head south for Applebees Park. Got a great group of players this year. These guys are fundamentally sound and now are improving their speed, strength, and agility. Some of the players have slimmed down and look stronger. Others have grown into their big frames. Speed.... well lets just say that the Coach Baioni specialty will be working well this year....

I will say this: Baseball is entirely unpredictable. To already pencil somebody in as the regional winner is foolish and downright ignorant. There will be quite a few very good teams in NKY this year but heck, one of them may not even win the title.

Last year's regional champ wasn't even ranked in the top 10 at the beginning of the year.

Kind of my point before I was slapped down by the board monitor. And Simon Kenton and Scott were mediocre teams at best that caught fire and won regions far less deep and competitive as the 9th, and SK caught a very good draw in state tourney and kept going. Highlands may be best team on paper, but if they draw the ace from Ryle, or BW, or Conner, that could be it. Silly to make broad statements in this sport

You always have to have Cov Cath in the discussion. They are a top tier team every year. Even when you think they should be ready for a down year, they show up in the middle if contention for the 9th.

Absolutely agree! Cov Cath won more games than any other NKY team last season, going 33-7.

Their JV team went 23-5. The Freshman team went 17-5.

Also, their freshman class this year are unarguably the best group around with 8+ kids playing on SWOL National level teams last summer or older age groups. Cov Cath should be in any top 5 NKY list for at least the next 4 years.
