Catcher

Who are the candidates ?

Who are the candidates ?

Ben Kindt and Decker Shwarts I believe. I believe Ben is a much better defensive catcher. Decker has a solid bat and a good arm but he struggles on his accuracy

Isn't AJ Mayer a catcher?

I think so, but i think Krumps usually likes giving the upperclassmen the better chance.

My nickel says the catcher slot will be filled by one of two freshman.... Mayer or Alex Kennedy. Mayer caught last year up a year for Kentucky Colonels and Kennedy catches up for Midland.

Wow. Nice young talent at the position. What other positions do they play ?

I've never known Krumps to care about age.

How big is Kindt?? I haven't seen him in a while, but he was always pretty small. I always thought he'd eventually end up at 2nd base or left field.

He is pretty small. I'm not sure how tall he is exactly though.

I would think Mayer could fill in anywhere and the Kennedy boy can also play the corners. Both are good size with Alex built more like a catcher... 6' 190lbs. CCH has a few more that are very good catchers coming next year also with Bowman, McGinniss and Coldiron. Colonels will be set at that position for a while.

I like how the talk is all about Beechwood (Rightfully so. They are loaded.), Highlands (Gimme a break), and the blue Colonels. You all forget that Simon Kenton is a Northern Kentucky team. I know they play in a different region. So does Scott and Campbell County but wow!! Simon returns a lot and has a lot coming up. Don't leave them out of the mix. The team that they finished State Runner-Up with was not the best team but they peaked at the right time. The next 4 or 5 years they will have the best team, maybe in the state, behind Beechwood. It could be a Beechwood/Simon Kenton party in Lexington come June this year and next.

Give you a break on HHS? They only graduated 5 off a team that played for the regional championship and of those 5 only 3 played in that championship game (Allen, Hergott and Gesenhues). The other 8 players that batted in that game were juniors. Two of the three pitchers were juniors (Martin and Bunning) and one was a sophomore (Raisor). That is a lot of talent that is returning with experience!

As for SK, they graduated 9 off their team from last year. 6 of those 9 were starters in the state championship game (Bryson, Wassom, Mundy, Smith, Marcum and Capps). A 7th senior was included in the box score (Davis) as a pinch runner. They do return Lawrence and Burge but I don't think qualifies as "returns a lot" like you state.

At the lower levels, SK exited in the JV quarterfinals and the first round of the freshmen tournament.

Maybe SK will be one of the top teams by seasons end but as it stands right now, they have a lot to replace.

And to be clear I'm not knocking SK as I respect the heck out of them but don't let homerism cloud your judgment.

Who are some of the key players SK have returning this year? .

Just want to add that Jones returns as well to pitch for HHS. He pitched in the regional final after missing 9 weeks due to injury, and has pitched in the last 3 regional tournaments.

For those that believe Highlands is not legit , nku's post demonstrates that belief is a mistake.
