Absolutely agree! Cov Cath won more games than any other NKY team last season, going 33-7.

Their JV team went 23-5. The Freshman team went 17-5.

Also, their freshman class this year are unarguably the best group around with 8+ kids playing on SWOL National level teams last summer or older age groups. Cov Cath should be in any top 5 NKY list for at least the next 4 years.

 

Cov Cath has three juniors playing top notch travel ball with the Ohio Force: Heppler, Young, and Langguth. I got a good felling about CCH.

I saw a double header in the Fall HS league the last weekend of the season. Granted, that league does not bring the best talent with so many other options and sports for the players. But I saw Campbell County play and beat two very good teams that were both loaded with HS starters. I have to admit, the Camels that I saw in that two games was an entirely different team than the two games I saw them play against Scott last year. I know last years Camels team was made up with 12 Juniors. Could it be that team figured it out? If I recall the 10th region rankings, they were no better than 12-13 in the preseason rankings in their own Region. Any Camels fans with insights?

I didn't get to see the Camels during their high school season, but I did see them in Fall a couple of times. They did look pretty good... And as you said, surely didn't have all their "regulars". I expect they'll have a pretty solid season for sure. Good team.

Camels had a ton of potential last year, but always seemed to get in their own way. Only true senior leadership last year came from a player that found his role diminished to being a DH only. Camels return every position player, lost one starter, and their DH. Roy Gaines a long time CovCath assistant is now on the Campbell County staff and is working with the hitters during offseason workouts. Top three starting pitchers for the Camels will be Eblin, Becker, and Edwards

I have a hard time picking BW at the top, losing Suchanek and Booth is a huge loss. Jason was the undisputed leader of that team, when kids started waffling he brought them back in. Not a kid around here I would rather go into a game with than him, he was an animal. Trevor was extremely under appreciated, certainly was one of the top middle infielders defensively around here. Both kids were tough outs at the plate, and not sure there are replacements. Sure the star power is still there with Combs and Stringer, and I am sure Slusher will have another big year, but not sure they will hit well as a team and have no clue who will play the MIF positions? Word around the water cooler is they will attempt to convert one of the OFs to the SS position, not sure any of those kids have played there since they were 8 so that could be a huge issue.

MIF is a concern for them, but somebody may surprise us and do a great job for them. As a whole though, they still have a pretty strong core of players...no doubt they'll be really good again this year.

I do not think it will hurt that the target is off their back. Last year expectations were outrageous for this team. And if you saw Trevor Booth in the regional game he really was a very underrated player for the Tigers.

NCC in either 2010 and 11 or 11/12. Before that it was mid 90's CCH. Beechwood and CCH came close in early to mid 2000's with both going 3 straight times and both teams losing middle game.

 

Highlands did it with Glaser and Pfetzer as their 1&2 in '96 and '97 I believe.

The team lacked in hitting last year. Edwards hurt his wrist in the first game and never got right at the plate. Eblin did not come close to being the hitter he was the year before. And the rest of the team was worried about their own stats. If they will play for each other it will be interesting. They also have a very good young catcher in the wings who could give Metz a run for his money.

I would base it from the success he had last year at the varsity level as a freshman. Is he Ross right now, no? But I look at him and the skills he has and I see someone with a ceiling a little higher than Ross'
