Man I step away from the phone for an hr and I missed all the hatin on kids, coaches, fans, etc. Come on people, Its just a game.

I heard Ruthsatz was tossing cookies into the garbage can during some breaks.

 

That is correct. He was putting a towel on his head anytime he went to the bench. During one timeout he stood behind the bench leaning over a garbage can. I didn't see him actually throw up but he was clearly not feeling well.

 

New Cath could not convert inside. They missed too many shots and and had too many turnovers. The stats I heard were McDonald and Schulte were 4-20 from the floor and New Cath was 5-17 from the foul line.

 

On the Pangallo foul, if Pangallo goes straight up and Ruthsatz jumps 3 feet forward straight into him, that doesn't seem like it should be a foul on Pangallo. Ruthsatz literally took a big step forward and jumped into Pangallo. Ruthsatz is very good at driving/jumping into a defender's chest then throwing his arm and head back dramatically and the refs give him the calls. He is a very smart player.

Neither team played well but NCC managed to play a lot worse than CovCath. It was kind of a miracle that a team playing with no passion and can't make a layup or a foul shot as actually leading this game in the 4th quarter.

 

The obvious foul shooting aside and many missed layups aside NCC did not even play a smart game. I believe they failed to get a shot off holding the ball at the end of each quarter for the last shot. Then CovCath was smart enough to get it in Ruthsatz hand at the end hence the 14 of 15 foul shooting and NCC kept fouling him instead of fouling...........ummm anyone else.

 

The officiating was okay. Yeah there was a couple of missed calls.......agree with Clyde that even though the offensive player charges into the defender it gets called on the defender almost always. And that was a bad call. Ironically Dixie fans will be upset that Hatton did the same thing with under a minute left against Holmes with Dixie down 3.... he got the defender to go up and then charged into him trying to get 3 foul shots. That one resulted in no call and an air ball.

 

The first 4 minutes of the 4th quarter was just terrible offensive play by both teams. It looked like a 5th grade game when teams can finally press in the 4th quarter and suddenly everyone just runs up and down the floor and can't make a shot.

 

Give some credit to the CovCath interior defense. They did alter or at least hurry their share of shots and when they did put NCC at the line it only helped CovCath. Sometimes you just have to adjust and play the game the way it is flowing. I thought they did a good job of not letting NCC finish and putting them at the line if they had to.

As I said in the last Final thread, Covcath is a bunch of tough kids. Congrats to them. They outworked NC. Congrats also to NC on a very good season. Holmes and CCH should be a classic.

The only legit question to ask would be why Zack was trying to block a 3 pt attempt in the first place. Give Ruthsatz (or Ruth-SOTZ if you're the Dixie PA guy) full credit for recognizing a chance to get to the line for 3.

Ruthsatz jumped 2 feet forward into Pangallo. Zac did leave his feet, but he did not jump toward Nick. Probably a no call, but surely not a foul on Zac.

 

Pangallo has to go the bench with his third foul and Ruthsatz goes to the line for 3 FT's. Not the reason for the outcome but changed the way the game proceeded from that point.

Two years running now with an all 35th district final. Pretty strong.

We are in agreement that the call almost always goes against the defender. We are not in agreement that the call made in this case was the correct call.

 

A defender has the right to go straight up and come back down. The offensive player does not have the right to launch himself like a fullback at the goal line.

 

The Dixie game had the same situation except that the defender was actually closer to Hatton than Pangallo was to Ruthsatz. And Hatton did not have to launch as much as Ruthsatz did. But the ref made no call and despite the contact and even though it drew protest from Hatton and the Dixie bench I thought that was the correct call.

Then the rule needs to change. Worst call I have ever seen. Pangallo jump straight up not to him. That call change the game gave pangallo his 3rd foul had to sit just before that pangallo hit a three and a jumper was starting to feel it. Bad call just my opinion.
