Looked at some other sites and it seems the joy of Highlands losing and the hatred appears to be throughout the Commonwealth. I think it's more of a headline that Highlands lost rather than the fact that Collins won.

Was this a moral victory for Highlands? They kept it close.

Just another compliment to the Titan team and the way they are coached. Whenever you speak to one if the kids, they answer with, "Yes, sir", "no, sir", "thank you, sir". I am not around these kids a lot due to being with my team, Raceland. But social media and being around them for a few games, I just know they are the real deal. Real class on and off the field. Oh, I almost forgot. They visit a sick kid from their school who is in the hospital with a very bad illness. He isn't even a player, he is just a classmate. They wear stickers on their helmets in his honor. Class program with class coaches.

Collins air attack was just about unstoppable and then they mixed the run in pretty affectively.

 

Highlands offense was good as usuL but sputtered a couple times when Houliston got pressured

 

The last 2 minutes of the game I can't describe and give justice. It's best to watch the stream. It was fun to witness Both teams put it all out there in the last dew minutes with never say die attitude.

Now we're getting to some meat......and what were they VOR?

 

Here are a few that come to mind:

 

Both teams tried onsides kicks that gave the other team short fields. Why give a team rolling over your defense a short field to work with? I would try to make them go the length of the field and hope for a mistake - turnover, penalty, or maybe my defense finally makes two plays in a row to force a punt.

 

Similarly, Collins went for it on fourth down in their own territory.

 

Collins had one possession where they got a first and goal and then wasted a timeout because they didn't get a play called in time. The timeout was a factor at the end of the game.

 

On the last drive, Collins definitely wasted a lot of clock. They were taking 20-25 seconds to get plays called. I understand wanting to score on the last play, because it was that kind of game, but IMO they mismanaged that last 1:30 and it almost cost them when they got stuck facing a fourth down play and pretty much forced to throw it to the end zone because they were running the ball and running clock.

Yea that taunting penalty really hurt Highlands. Not saying Collons wouldn't have scored without that penalty because they already showed in that drive they can get that homerun ball at anytime. But it sure didn't hurt Collins any.

 

I also found it interesting that the last play of the game that Dale was whining to the refs wanting a penalty for too many men on he field for Collins when in reality Collins had 11 and the 11th man was the one trying to get off the field.

Congrats to Collins! In NKY, your win is considered a miracle. But that's why games are played on the field. I'm sure Highlands will be back again next year.

That was a very, very impressive performance to say the least.

 

Sorry to see the Highlands Srs go out runnerup but the run had to end sometime and unfortunately for the Srs it happened tonite.

It is almost like there is 7 up years of pent up Highlands angst being vented.

 

Congrats to Collins. Played a very good game. Their offensive diversity served them well. Especially like to give a shout out to my old college friend Jim Axline whose son anchored the Collins line at Center and is just a soph (started last year too).

 

Clyde brought up the Collins play calling towards the end of the game and we all know Monday morning (in this case Saturday evening) Quarterbacking is easy but I respect the heck out of coaches who play to win. Collins strength was their O and coach Lucas put the game in their hands.

 

To the Birds it has been an unprecedented run. Seasons at Highlands are defined by winning a state championship or not. This is a very high bar and is a little bit unfortunate. Hopefully the boys will be able to appreciate what the have been apart of and not how it ended. Some really great young men and families in that senior class. Many I consider friends and hurt for them tonight.
