Still wondering, how do these young men matriculate to Cordia from Canada? What is it about Cordia that stands out? I don't care, I'm just curious why Cordia? Connections to a coach? Strong academic boarding school?

Or Southwestern, or any other school like that for that matter. I don't know the Canadian connection, but sure seems a strange connection. And call it human nature, but when teams like this pop up with so much doubt surrounding the ethics, it's easy to root against them. See Rose Hill, Scott Co, and countless others.

I think the point LB13 raised is perfectly fair to ask . Wondering if a school is investigated is fair. I just don't get the people who seem so angry about the transfers.

Go ahead and start a thread asking, "How do the Moeves kids pay for the NewCath education"? However, I can help answer it for you. Both parents are practicing catholics and the boys attended catholic grade school until 6th grade, and then financially it wasn’t possible to continue to attend. Two years ago they looked to attend either NewCath or CovCath (mom is a Notre Dame grad), but financially it was not possible. Last year both grandparents past away and this created a means, financially, for the family to move to Capmbell Co. and made it possible to attend NewCath.

 

Was there decision motivated by basketball on some level? I'm not there parents so I can't say, but both boys play on the same summer hoops & baseball teams with several NewCath players. So this probably helped in this decision.

And to your question, "is your problem with Cordia really that they are getting good kids who might beat your team?" HELL NO!!! To be totally honest it never entered my mind. I'm sure the Breds are looking forward to playing them.

 

 

And I'm sure that summer hoops teams/teammates probably had some influence on kids moving to Cordia as well. Rhodes probably has a ton networking and there are probably people he's played or coached with who know him personally and want their kids to play for him just like any other school. If you wonder how kids hear about Cordia, think about how many other high schools have an ex-NBA player and college coach on their sidelines. It kind of attracts attention, don't you think?

 

If Cordia and Newport Central Catholic play, I think it'd be a great game and one that I was referring to when I was talking about the "two teams on a collision course since the draw came out with D1 talent".

 

My point wasn't to really find out about the Moeves' kids situations, just to illustrate that if we are going to dig up dirt on Cordia, then we should take a big shovel, because plenty of other schools are probably guilty of anything that Cordia is.

You failed to adress the first part of his statement. i.e. the comparison you made.

 

That both got transfers who were good at basketball? That I have consistently said that I think transfers should be eligible unless something god-awful has went on? Or that I think it's weird that tons of other schools who get transfers and no one raises a stink because it's their rooting interest, but when a "have not" like Cordia gets them, people throw out assumptions about them not caring about school (one kid visited an Ivy League team this weekend) or that the kids cannot afford the school (I know of one Cordia parent whose a college graduate that seems to be doing alright for herself)?

 

I think I've been fairly consistent in addressing those, but if you feel like there's something else I haven't addressed, then let me know, because maybe I'm just missing it.

 

To add to it, honestly, yes, I was somewhat bothered that the perception was "black kid whose good at basketball… something must be going on, he couldn't care about his education or his parents probably can't pay" that seemed to be implied in some statements. If that wasn't how they were intended, then my apologies, sometimes things are lost in text and misinterpreted and I was getting a different sense.

The Moeves's moving was not an easy decision for the family. BGP has not been very kind to them. They are a great family and the boys are wonderful kids. They all have adjusted very well. Don't we all think it's time to put it to rest and let the boys enjoy their high school days? These are real people we are talking about. A real family with real experiences. Let it be!

One case just a couple of years ago involved two girls who parents were separated or divorced. They moved in with their father and the KHSAA found they were not eligible? And they played that huge sport of tennis or track, I forget which. There are a lot of cases where the KHSAA makes stupid and inconsistent rulings.

 

I have said for years that Kentucky needs to be more like California and allow one free transfer with no questions asked, it's how Mater Dei gets a lot of their good basketball players.

 

The KHSAA also needs to allow member schools to play prep school type teams during the regular season.

Only one comes to mind but kids go from Danville to Boyle County and vice versa YEARLY for academics, athletics, momma don't like my teacher, whatever. Happens YEARLY.
