Cordia being investigated by the KHSAA?

Featured Replies

I don't recall ANYONE bringing race into the mix, these kids could be as white as chalk....I don't care, i'd still ask the same questions. I am just asking simple questions and looking for a simple answer, that's it.

Everyone's response to my questions in "defense" only makes it seem...........:idunno:

Okay, so why are there no threads on "How do the Moeves kids pay for the New Cath education"? I could ask plenty of questions about that situation that I'm guessing would get the same 'defense' responses from you. You are kidding yourself if you don't think that their decision was motivated by basketball on some level. Just asking simple questions, looking for a simple answer there too. Here's one that's as simple as I could make it, that would go for everyone: be honest with yourself, is your problem with Cordia really that they are getting good kids who might beat your team, and at root of it all, that's what your problem really is?

Also, just because no one has explicitly brought it into the mix, doesn't mean there aren't a lot of (not-so) subtle things people's posts (not trying to single you out, because there are others this speaks to) are implying about "how do they pay for it", "do they get scholarships", and "I don't want my tax money going to…". You should be able to see how I take those to imply that people think they aren't capable of paying for it when other kids are just assumed to be in a better position.

I see things like that being thrown around for Cordia, but not other schools.

So those in this thread who have no problem with Cordia thinks all schools should be able to get players anywhere they want?

I think I've been pretty consistent throughout my time on BGP with saying if a kid thinks they are better off at one school than another, then that's enough for me. As long as they are going to class and nothing egregious is going on, I'm fine.

1st bolded. People have to be in authority to have an opinion or to question possibly violations?

2nd bolded. No, this isn't true. Absolutely someone can be recruited to a school and found eligible to play. Innocent and not guilty, to use legal terms, are not the same, but the outcome is, rightly or wrongly.

3rd bolded. Well, now you're kinda being a little snippy and doing what you accuse a lot of posters on here who have expressed their opinions of doing.

You have shared your story with us here about your and your son's particular situation, and we all hope he is doing well and this is a better situation for him. With that said, being so close to the program you just can't and don't have an unbiased opinion. You can't, and I understand that and should the tables be reversed and I was so close to a particular program and had a son playing I wouldn't have an unbiased opinion either.

I think what you are failing to realize as well is...this isn't just about Cordia. Cordia is just the microcosm of the bigger picture of potential rules violations in high school athletics as a whole when it comes to possible "recruitment" of athletes. If it's just brushed over and overlooked, regardless of what school(s) where it may be happening, then the problem doesn't get any better, it actually grows. Though I'm not comparing the two situations, but just look at the recent Fairview fiasco. According to those in the know, that situation was allowed to exist for a long time and it just kept getting worse. If there's going to be a rule, many of us just want everyone to follow the rules and applied and followed equally by everyone, that's all.

1. No people don't but if a kid is ruled eligible then the preceptions is there are no violations or not enough to render ineligible.:sssh:

3. No really I don't care and I have been around basketball awhile and have known kid to move in and out of state for whatever reason. I just get tired of reading all the deaming of kids, coach and the program and not just on this site. It is sad and obvious as to the real problems. ALL I say is let those with authority do their jobs. And so down kids you don't know. your issue is not with Cordia it with those who make the decisions and that's where it should be addressed. Just from my seat it very frustrating and really abusive. Sorry. BUT CORDIA HAS NOT BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF ANYTHING EXCEPT THROUGH YOURS AND OTHERS EYES WHO BASH ON THE BLOGS IMPLYING THAT YOUR ACCUSATIONS ARE TURE, BUT THEY HAVE NOT MERIT SO STOP. It not true in all cases.

You can be sanctimonious with the best of them, but you give the khsaa too much credit. There are myriads of violations throughout this Commonwealth that khsaa neither hears, overlooks, or simply doesn't have the investigative manpower to resolve. To think otherwise is to have your head buried to the Adam's apple in the proverbial sand.

REALLY it has been implied in many comments..... I am BLACK and can identify a race card. AND That's my only issue...... these are KIDS not all bad.... not all dumb.... not all only concerned with sports.

Sorry then if that's the case your opinions really don't matter. CORDIA is the only school that captures the negative attentions. At the end of the day if the kid is ruled eligible then the opinions are wrong and in some cases slander.

I just think it's weird that it can be assumed that one family can send two kids to a school that I will bet my last dollar has much more expensive tuition than Cordia, no problem, no questions asked, but people who don't have a problem with that want to call other places into question.

If you are consistently saying that the KHSAA is letting too much go in too many places like BigVMan23, then I understand that more-so than the other arguments. Still yet, the KHSAA had a precedence set with the Mitchell situation and last year, an injunction was given to two Cordia kids; same rule that other schools have used. If you disagree with the injunction standard, then that's fine too. I'm just saying that it seems like they are playing the same hand that other schools have used before.

If we're going to cry foul, we're going to be crying loudly and often.

Finally, for the record, Malik Hines' commitment to Ohio State tells me that they don't have a problem recruiting him. Ohio State's basketball program doesn't really jump out at me as one whose an NCAA outlaw who brazenly runs afoul of the rules, especially considering fallout from the mess of the tattoo situation, so their recruitment of him tells me plenty. Ask yourself if you really think they'd take a chance on taking a commitment from him if there were major questions about his eligibility that were there on the surface? I think if that were the case, they wouldn't take his verbal when they could be using that slot on other players who were just as talented but didn't have those questions. If it were a smaller school who doesn't get sniffs from Top 100 kids unless something is up, then I'd feel differently, but the Ohio State verbal is telling to me.

If people would say "I have a problem with how good it looks like Cordia is going to be", then I'd be far more sympathetic, despite the fact that I think it's exactly that attitude that is what's wrong with high school sports in Eastern Kentucky. If you think, "wow, someone is way better than me" and instead of using that energy as motivation and making myself better, I'd rather complain about (arguably laxly enforced) rules that will assure I'm the best without working harder, then it's just odd to me. I personally feel that if more schools took the former approach, we'd have a better overall product and I'd have sat through fewer blowouts in Rupp when one of the Mountain schools just got pounded because they were horribly overmatched but everyone on the team went back to the hotel ecstatic because they seemed happy just to be there.

Want your chance to play in Rupp with the status quo, do what plenty of schools have done in the past and promise to buy a huge block of tickets for a preseason scrimmage, bring the family and enjoy the show.

For my time and money, I'm more excited about Sweet 16 games where the teams have been seen as being on a collision course since the draw came out and each has a legitimate D1 recruit (i.e., I'm getting scholarship offers, not I'm getting a look from ______ NAIA or D3 program back home).

LOL! So if someone has an opinion that is not in line with yours ten their opinion doesn't matter? LOL!

Don't assume that the KHSAA gets everything correct and that no other schools:coaches ect gets questions asked from others. Just because the KHSAA rules one way doesn't mean that all opposing opinions are wrong.

First they SOLD there house and moved 20 miles to the north they are not renting they bought a new house. They pay the full price thank you.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Moeves kids?

Must be some lucky ducks up in Newport. Three starters transfer in over a two year period and all of them are just on the up-and-up, fine as can be. Pretty gutsy move to get in the housing market with the economy as it is. Must be those #FirstWorldProblems.

Oh yea, I guess they are different too because you only move 20 miles and it's just fine. Those aren't transfers, right? Pot, meet kettle. Again, for the record, I think it should be kid's right to go where they want, I just think it's ironic that a team who benefits from transfers themselves has fans who are the most outspoken on the Cordia issue, especially when they talk about someone else "burying their head in the sand".

Next we'll be hearing about how those transfers had nothing at all to do with basketball. Bet the family was planning on moving to the area for years and just happened to pull the trigger this year. Funny how that works.

Opinions are great it's the opinions implicated as facts that's the problems. It's the negative innuendos regarding kids, parents and one school. Then the answer is it's all schools but the comments are not the same for other schools. Well it KHSAA is the deciding body who are you and anyone else to say they don't get it right......???? At the end of the day wrong or right in your mind your opinion is fact and KHSAAA doesn't matter. WRONG. And that type of comment is what I'm talking about, you and others have convinced yourselves that Cordia is all wrong and maybe so but as KHSAA rules on these kids you still say they are wrong. REALLY. AND I speak to any school any player it doesn't matter. I think they should all be able to play I feel when it comes to sports and only certain sports the rules are harsh....i.e.. football and basketball..... no other sports get the criticism as the above. No other group of kids are penalized or the subject of rule changes.... Really it's a mindset and I understand that I just want you to understand that's what it is. When was the last big discussion about the tennis or swim transfer or the cheerleader who wants a scholarship for cheering. I'm just say.... It's not fair.

Your pity party falls on deaf ears. Cordia is only the flavor of the season with regards to scrutiny over perceived rules elongation
