Cordia being investigated by the KHSAA?

Featured Replies

Not sure of any of the facts in this case although it at the least looks very fishy but as far as I know it could all be coincidence. However any adults who encourage a kid to transfer to their school knowing that eligibility for that kid might be a question mark is pretty low in my book. The kid moves and then is not eligible and loses a year of playing and can never get that time back. If the kid moves totally on there own accord then if they end up ineligible it is on them but if adults encourage it in any way that kids lost year playing is on the adults and that is shameful in my view.

WOW don't be mad or disappointed in a parent just maybe there is a bigger picture. I'm sure most of these kids play summer elite ball and school bball might not be as important.

Your kidding me? I find that hilarious! LOL!

You find it hilarious that someone whose mentioned on BGP that they live in Mississippi isn't as familiar with the KHSAA as people who live here, have joined BGP earlier, have posted more frequently, and actually live in Kentucky?

You've got to be…. oh, nevermind.

The Moeves's moving was not an easy decision for the family. BGP has not been very kind to them. They are a great family and the boys are wonderful kids. They all have adjusted very well. Don't we all think it's time to put it to rest and let the boys enjoy their high school days? These are real people we are talking about. A real family with real experiences. Let it be!

You are correct. And those kids at Cordia deserve the same respect.

Thank you. Hallelujah!

Don't you find it comical how the glass house folk start casting dispersion on anyone who would have the gall to question a situation that doesn't make any sense according to the bylaws set forth by our own athletic association? I couldn't care less about it either, but considering this is a high school sports message board, what do people think they'll find here?

Bylaws seem pretty clear to me. Come live in a dorm, get a chance at a discretionary waiver. Maybe it's just me but a kid from Texas or Canada obviously isn't commuting, so if they are staying in the school's dorms, they have a shot at a discretionary waiver. If not, they can possibly go the Mitchell route and get an injunction.

One family moves their home and the whole family goes to satisfy the rule. One kid moves to a boarding school and lives in a dorm to satisfy a different rule. Both have satisfied the rule as far as that goes. Both of those bylaws make perfect sense to me.

Even if the KHSAA rules them ineligible, there was a judge who granted an injunction last year, and since the Mitchell decision, the KHSAA has stayed out of that mess. Seems like they are playing the hand they're dealt, and that their strategy should be vaguely familiar to other schools.

I, and I am sure others. Find it funny that someone who is not from KY and not familiar with the KHSAA and their past is painting them as an all Holy body that can't do wrong or anything shady.

I think that a family's financial situation is personal, private and fluctuating.

I'm not thrilled that the angry mob that is BGP screams for these details. I also think it's pretty sad that some caved to the pressure and had to expose someone's private family matter.

A family moved to go to a private school because they wanted to and they can afford it. DONE.

Some other kids moved to a school district and information was provided to KHSAA to deem them eligible. DONE.

The fact that my fellow BGP posters had to GO THERE, either subtly or not so subtly, makes it a sad day on BGP.

Some of this stuff has gotten way out of hand, and I think twisted from the original intent.

This whole discussion started several weeks ago with a simple question. Simply put; Is there POSSIBLY something going on at Cordia that is against the rules and should it be looked into by the KHSAA? It was that simple. Some of us, me included, were and are of the opinion that, just looking at the simple fact of having 13 (the number I have seen thrown around) highly skilled basketball players transfer in from all parts of the country and even out of country to a very non descript relatively unknown school was, quite honestly, very very unusual. I think it's a very honest question, and I think there are enough red flags that it can't and shouldn't be ignored.

Well, then some people started to get defensive. Some said stop picking on the kids. Hey, no one is picking on the kids...this isn't a kid issue, its a school/program issue if there are rules violations occurring. Then some of the posts started going in other directions with race, money, societal standing, education, specifically naming other kids in other situations, etc. Here's what I don't understand. Is there truly anyone on here who honestly believes what has been going on at Cordia the last few months shouldn't be looked into by the KHSAA, especially as the rules are currently written? One can argue, like PurplePride has, that everyone should get one "freebie" transfer. Ok, there is a camp for that for sure...I'm not in it because I think it creates problems, that's another subject/thread completely but regardless I understand the point. Problem is, that's NOT how the rules are currently written.

So, lets just get back to and answer the original question. It's very simple. SHOULD THE TRASNFER SITUATION AT CORDIA BE LOOKED INTO BY THE KHSAA? I say yes. I don't find the question unfair, and I find it very easy to answer one way or the other.

The KHSAA just doesn't investigate a school because you don't like something a school is doing. Julian Tackett will tell you that there is a process where a specific person must give his/her identity and a SPECIFIC charge of breaking a rule.

Yeah, like I would expect the world to stop turning because I said so. Of course the KHSAA isn't going to do something simply because I think it should. That's not the point or the question. What the KHSAA does or doesn't do is never going to be based on my opinion, or the opinion of anyone else here on this board.

So I take it then that you think everything is just hunky dory and there is no need for anything to be looked into?

I took it as they were saying that the KHSAA must have a good reason to be looking at Cordia because they don't just go investigate because somebody told them to invetigate. I took it as Iam4thecats is saying that there is a process that has to be followed for there to be a formal investigation.

Yes. I have been an advocate of kids transferring without penalty for years.

This is where we disagree. I think it would create many many problems, and the scenarios aren't hard to come up with. If anyone thinks "recruiting" is a problem now, just think what it would be like if kids could bounce around without even a thought. JMHO.

I read it as having a little more "bite" towards me. Maybe I was wrong.

Recruiting doesn't bother me either though. Recruiting goes on without head coaches being involved or actively recruiting. Recruiting happens between the kids at AAU games and practices. Recruiting happens at spring/summer tournaments and camps. Recruting happens in social media. Head coaches don't have to recruit and of all the head coaches I have been in contact with none of them recruit. They will all happily take an eligible transfer that shows up unexpectedly though. As they should. Schools and coaches recruit themselves with little or no active recruiting at all. If you are perceived as a good and quality program kids and their parents will want their kids there. It's only natural.

I didn't read it that way but I could be mistaken.

Oh, believe me I know that goes on...rightly or wrongly...and there's not a thing anyone can do about it, even if one wanted to. However, I have no doubt some coaches put that "bug in their ear" of kids to let them know if they say something to Bobby Joe Dunkmachine then they just might come and play for our program.

To me, the more of that that goes on, the more it becomes club basketball and the less it stays high school basketball as we know/have known it. Which, personally I think is a shame. Where's the school pride? Where's the town pride? Danville and Boyle Co., big rivalry. But what if half the kids that played for Danville where from Anderson Co., and half the kids at Boyle were from Mercer? How's one supposed to feel about that? Maybe that doesn't matter to people any more. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. Maybe time has passed me by.
