Oh, believe me I know that goes on...rightly or wrongly...and there's not a thing anyone can do about it, even if one wanted to. However, I have no doubt some coaches put that "bug in their ear" of kids to let them know if they say something to Bobby Joe Dunkmachine then they just might come and play for our program.

 

To me, the more of that that goes on, the more it becomes club basketball and the less it stays high school basketball as we know/have known it. Which, personally I think is a shame. Where's the school pride? Where's the town pride? Danville and Boyle Co., big rivalry. But what if half the kids that played for Danville where from Anderson Co., and half the kids at Boyle were from Mercer? How's one supposed to feel about that? Maybe that doesn't matter to people any more. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. Maybe time has passed me by.

 

Trust me. As a transplant into Boyle County it doesn't matter where you are from. You pick your side and that is all that matters. My son has his first Boyle/Danville game on Thursday. He has no idea but he'll find out soon enough. :lol:

But see, to me it would. Hypothetical example. I go to see Anderson Co play basketball. The starting center is some "hired gun" who's come in from TX. The pg is a recruit from Boyle Co. The 3 man is a steal from Mercer. The 2 guard found his way over from Western Hills. What the heck? That's not Anderson Co. That's not a team made up of kids I go to church with, kids working over at Kroger, kids who live in Thoroughbred Estates, Hunters Ridge, Broadway, North Main, Western Anderson, etc. There's no community in that.

 

When I was in high school, it meant something for Morehead to beat our cross county rivals, Reidsville. Heated rivalry. When we beat them, it meant we...us boys from Eden, were better than those trash talking knuckleheads from Reidsville. WE beat them. Not a bunch of kids from Greensboro, Madison, Stoneville and Rockingham Co with a few Eden kids thrown in. WE beat them.

This is where we disagree. I think it would create many many problems, and the scenarios aren't hard to come up with. If anyone thinks "recruiting" is a problem now, just think what it would be like if kids could bounce around without even a thought. JMHO.

 

The only problems are for adults who still let high school sports run their lives. I wish HS sports just got back to there intent of the growth and maturation of teenagers.

HS sports aren't for fans entertainment. HS sports is suppose to be a tool to devolop you men and women into adults. I feel like so many people have lost sight of this. If these kids and their respective families feel this school is best for them, who am I or anyone to tell them they can't because it might ruin little Suzie or Johnnies shot at winning region.

I don't have a problem with parents and kids wanting to play for a certain coach or in a certain program. IMO that is using high school sports as a tool to develop young men and women. Not everyone transfers just to win region and in this situation with Cordia I highly doubt those kids came to Cordia just so they could win the 14th Region. They came so they could learn from a coach who has experience and who they feel will best develop them for the next level.

Tell them they should find something else to do on a Friday night other than be there in the stand cheering for kids, most of who they don't know personally. In essence that's what you are saying. You might have to peel several octogenarians off of you before the nights over with.

You have described perfectly a prep school, or an academy. This is not the description of a KHSAA eligible high school. Have fun. Play for your chosen coach. Develop into that player for the next level, but don't claim to be following KHSAA guidelines when your not.

I never said they didn't have a right to watch and cheer on the team. My point was some of those adults lose sight in what HS sports are about. People stay in their "glory days" way to long. HS sports is for devloping today's youth. I love to watch my former school do well and root them on. But I don't let it consume my life where I'm bashing HS kids on the internet.

The Moeves's moving was not an easy decision for the family. BGP has not been very kind to them. They are a great family and the boys are wonderful kids. They all have adjusted very well. Don't we all think it's time to put it to rest and let the boys enjoy their high school days? These are real people we are talking about. A real family with real experiences. Let it be!

You are correct. And those kids at Cordia deserve the same respect.

 

Not that I disagree, but I don't recall anyone specifically naming anyone from Cordia.

 

Some of this stuff has gotten way out of hand, and I think twisted from the original intent.

 

This whole discussion started several weeks ago with a simple question. Simply put; Is there POSSIBLY something going on at Cordia that is against the rules and should it be looked into by the KHSAA? It was that simple. Some of us, me included, were and are of the opinion that, just looking at the simple fact of having 13 (the number I have seen thrown around) highly skilled basketball players transfer in from all parts of the country and even out of country to a very non descript relatively unknown school was, quite honestly, very very unusual. I think it's a very honest question, and I think there are enough red flags that it can't and shouldn't be ignored.

 

Well, then some people started to get defensive. Some said stop picking on the kids. Hey, no one is picking on the kids...this isn't a kid issue, its a school/program issue if there are rules violations occurring. Then some of the posts started going in other directions with race, money, societal standing, education, specifically naming other kids in other situations, etc. Here's what I don't understand. Is there truly anyone on here who honestly believes what has been going on at Cordia the last few months shouldn't be looked into by the KHSAA, especially as the rules are currently written? One can argue, like PurplePride has, that everyone should get one "freebie" transfer. Ok, there is a camp for that for sure...I'm not in it because I think it creates problems, that's another subject/thread completely but regardless I understand the point. Problem is, that's NOT how the rules are currently written.

 

 

 

So, lets just get back to and answer the original question. It's very simple. SHOULD THE TRASNFER SITUATION AT CORDIA BE LOOKED INTO BY THE KHSAA? I say yes. I don't find the question unfair, and I find it very easy to answer one way or the other.

Were we reading the same post from Lipton Bash? Zero chance that he meant that the old guys should not be there. What else are they going to do on a Friday or Saturday night? Plus there is that senior citizen discount calling their name. :lol2:

To be fair, I think you can see how I would feel that other kids were being singled out with "how do you go from Texas to Cordia" when there are only 2-3 players on the team from Texas. To me, that's basically singling them out without explicitly using their names. Also, if you don't think individual kids from Cordia have been singled out, you might want to check out the "Christen Cunningham to Cordia" thread and specific threads on Malik Hines.

 

As for the stuff on the specific kids situation(s) I didn't ask in hopes of drawing a specific response, just wanted to point out that these threads weren't really popping up on other kids.

i guess with some people you have spell it out so here goes:

 

I, and I am sure others. Find it funny that someone who is not from KY and not familiar with the KHSAA and their past is painting them as an all Holy body that can't do wrong or anything shady.

And the crossover's point the whole time has been that the KHSAA has been that in these individual cases, they've ruled the kids eligible and that's about all that you can ask. I don't see anywhere that the crossover says the KHSAA is perfect or anything like that. Maybe someone can be so gracious as to spell that one out for me as well.
