And her point the whole time has been that the KHSAA has been that in these individual cases, they've ruled the kids eligible and that's about all that you can ask. I don't see anywhere that she says the KHSAA is perfect or anything like that. Maybe someone can be so gracious as to spell that one out for me as well.

2. Do know that only there opinion matters whether good or bad, agree or disagree.

4. I don't find anything wrong with kids, parents, coaches, or whoever setting goals for the future and positioning themselves to accomplish them.

6. None, if any of these kids are ranked in the top 50 nationally excel the 8th grader Umhar. And maybe 1 in the Top 100 by a leading souring site (ESPN, Scout.com, Rivals)

8. I pray that all the kids playing basketball accomplish their goals, go to college, get an education, and become successful. And to be honest, not just basketball players, but all students. I feel that the politics of the games have made them more about adults and not the kids. If kids are coming in and taking local kid's spots the issue is not with the kids that transferred. You get what you give and transfers should elevate, drive, motive, and increase determination at the end of the day.

 

If the local kids work and desire to win (evident by their game), the transfers would be a moot point.

 

So my advice would be to open the local gym and provide one on one skill training for the local kids and those that are serious and will be there daily and the others will drop off and lose interest.

Did some research about Cordia since before this thread I'd never heard of it before. Interesting stuff about this tiny (247 kids) little K-12 school in Hazard. Also had no idea Rodrick Rhodes was the head coach -- not sure how I missed that. High school grades are between 20 and 30 kids. 58% of kids are male and 72% are economically challenged. 98% of kids are white, 1% Hispanic, and 1% are black.

 

Should be fun to follow this year.

 

I think we all need to be reminded of Knott County Schools' motto: "It's All About Kids".

I agree! It's not just one transfer, what is going on? If the KHSAA has an outside body look into it, one of two things will happen, 1) The whole thing caves in on Cordia, or 2) Cordia comes out clean and 90% of the talk goes silent.

It's akin to not acknowledging that there some people who didn't like Tubby as the UK coach because he was black or not acknowledging that some people didn't vote for Obama because he was black. This may have been mentioned, but if not...heads should be turning. No slam on Cordia but facts are facts. In the past 10 years, they have a record of 129-144 (one 20 win season) with ZERO district titles and ONE region victory (last year). A new coach, who has ZERO coaching experience, shows up and kids are now coming into the school, which the facts tells us, hasn't been overly successful the past decade, left and right. There are other things that could be mentioned but I will not do so...not my place...but are factual to the extent Cordia has gone and probably will continue to go to attract players.

I was just told that Malik Hines was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA. Not confirmed though

I mean, he had some transfers (even Candian kids coming into a small EKY with no history if I recall correctly) and he got exactly the same kind of publicity and critique that Rhodes has seen.

Thanks for sharing that Joker -- that news report really casts a different light over this situation for me, especially as far as how they are being received locally. The chants of "USA" don't bother me, I would expect those. The burning Canadian flag is insensitive and dumb, but that doesn't push me over the top. However, the noose on the Canadian flag was sent / posted by someone who needs a beating. The vandalism and "shooting out a window" are serious crimes and do create a situation that sounds dangerously unsafe.

 

LB13 doesn't me or anyone else to speak for him, but I think you two were discussing the role of race from two different angles. He meant (again, I think, and if I'm wrong LB13, I apologize) that he didn't think the state-wide issue with international transfers, the KHSAA looking into it, or people wanting them to be investigated had anything to do with race. I agree with him. However, clearly, I see your point that at least locally, race is an issue with this!
